I always love hearing about how people got engaged! Here's our story!

We flew back to Pittsburgh to visit my family for Spring Break (we live in Vegas and are both educators so we get a week off in the Spring). When we got there my best friend was picking us up from the airport and I was really annoyed. Once we got to the house my step mom told me to go check out the furniture in the living room. When I walked in there all my aunts, uncles, cousins, and best friends were there to surprise me (best friend was late to make sure everyone got there on time). I was so confused as to what was happening and I turned around and FH was on one knee! It was perfect!

Last September me and FH went to the beach for a week vacation just us two. We arrived in the evening (actually exactly one year ago today!) and decided to go grocery shopping for food for the week. In my mind it would be dark soon so we wouldn't be going out to the beach at all until the morning so I was taking my time wondering why he was trying to rush through shopping and getting mad at me. Little did I know he was trying to make it back to go out to the beach before sun set because he had planned on proposing then, but I messed that up lol. So the next morning, super early like right after sunrise, again he is rushing me to get ready and get out to the beach (usually I am the one trying to get his butt to get up and get ready so we can go out there). So I finally get halfway ready and he's like let's take out chairs out and claim the the perfect spot on the beach before other people get out there. I'm like ok let's go. So I'm still In my pjs but we get out there and set up our chairs, I lay my towel on the chair and turn to him like ok let's go get our swim suits on and he drops down to one knee and pulls the ring box out from his towel! I was so surprised! It was beautiful on the beach and so perfect Smiley smile

Few days before Christmas we exchanged gifts. My ring was attached to one of my gifts but I never saw it. He told me to check the size on the tag. I actually held the ring in my hand, pulled out the tag, told him it was right & put the gift down. I still never realized there was a ring. He had to tell me to check again. Then i saw it. I was incredibly surprised. I thought he was just being a smart ass & it was a bad joke. I got mad at him & started crying. Took me 10 minutes or so after he asked to realize he wasnt joking & finally said yes. He always said he'd never get married again. It wasn't a sweet romantic story but it's ours & only took 8 years lol

    I love everyone's stories!!

We were traveling for the very first time to Europe and our last stop was Paris. He told me we were going to breakfast at a really nice restaurant so I needed to dress up lol. While on our way to the "restaurant" we stopped so we could take pictures. He then asked a "stranger" to take a picture of us, which I later found out was the photographer he hired secretly hired. He dropped to his knee and asked my to marry him! Afterwards we had a photo shoot all around Paris!

First of all, I LOVE LOVE LOVE the title of this post. We see a lot of engagement story threads, but most of them phrase the title to exclude anyone except women who were proposed to by their men. Smiley smile

We had been talking marriage for awhile, but we were buying a house first. We had fought more during the house shopping process than we fought in our entire relationship to that point, and one night FH confessed with sadness in his voice that he was really scared of alienating me over the home-buying process. I knew I had to show him that that wasn't going to happen.

Shortly after, we agreed on a home and our bid was accepted! I planned a "new house celebration" dinner and picked a restaurant that would be perfect....FH loves the bay bridge lights in San Francisco, and finds them romantic, so I made a reservation at a steakhouse that is basically directly beneath the bay bridge, and asked for a table with a view of the lights so I could propose.

I made a ring box that looked like a question block from the Mario video games, and tucked the ring inside. I had a short speech planned about how I wouldn't be alienated, and the life I hoped we could build together, but all of my words betrayed me. I set the gift bag with the ring box on the table when FH got up, and he didn't see it at first! I got antsier and antsier until I finally shoved the gift bag at him! He didn't have any words either, LoL, so he nodded as he put the ring on and we grinned at each other mutely until the food arrived.

After dinner, we sat by the ocean and talked late into the night.

    These are so cute!!!

FH and I were "taking family pictures" on the boat in Lake Havasu and as we were finishing up we started to head back. The photographer was bummed she didn't take as many pics as she wanted to and it was her first time on a boat. So she asked if she could take more of FH and I under the bridge so I said sure. So we were taking pictures and our song came on and he proposed! Our entire family was on the bridge with a huge sign that said Ashley Will You Marry Me. It was SO sweet. I was so surprised, my best friend flew from Northern California to surprise me!

We've been together 12 years, own a home together, etc. TBH I kind of gave up on the idea that we'd get married, and was ok with that. A proposal is literally the last thing I'd have expected.

He woke me up at 5am on my day off. I was already NOT pleased. He had a 6am meeting and wanted to see if I would meet him for breakfast afterwards. We don't do this on weekdays, like...ever. So, after being a complete and rabid bitch to him for having woken me up, I buried my head under the covers and tried to go back to sleep. He silently and quickly found the nearest exit.

I couldn't get back to sleep, and was a feeling a little bad for ripping him a new one. I decided to get dressed, and texted him I'd meet him.

He proposed over eggs Benedict at our favorite breakfast place.

Apparently he'd been sleeping with the hard plastic ring box in his pocket so I wouldn't discover it. That could NOT have felt good...

@Megan - so cute! Very similar to my story. We'd been together 16 years at the time of our engagement. We bought a house last year and I had started giving up on ever getting married. But he had the ring for almost a year before he asked and he finally decided to pop the question after a couple of our friends had close family members pass away unexpectedly. He said he didn't want anything to happen to one of us and never get to give me the ring.

Lucky for me I have this long ass story typed up to someone haha.

He proposed the day before Mother’s Day this year. We went shopping for gifts for our mothers and the first stop was Sephora. I am obsessed with that place but I digress. We start off in the perfume section when he mentions checking out the lotion section for his mom. This very eccentric employee comes to help us look at lotions and she starts to massage my hands (whaaaa?). At one point I tell her I wanted to try another brand and she ran away. At this point he tells me to stay put that he is going to look at facial products and that I should wait for her to return. She comes back with a Pandora ring dish. I proclaim, “I have the same one!” and start asking if she plans on putting a bunch of lotions on the dish so we didn’t have to walk around. Poor woman starts stuttering and my fiancé comes from around the corner laughing and then proposes. I look around and there are members of the staff recording and another was taking out plastic champagne glasses and “bubbly” (i.e. seltzer given that they can’t drink on the job) lol. When it was all over he stated, “bet you didn’t see that comin’!”

    What I did not know:

He had asked my parents and sister (MOH) for their blessings a few weeks prior and shortly after had began planning with the store to put together the proposal. So why did she randomly give me a hand massage with lotion? Because I was wearing a ring and he needed a slick way to take it off haha. Turns out that was my dish, I had made a joke a long time ago when he got the dish with a gift set that if he proposes that is what I’m going to use the dish for. He thought me seeing this would be a hint. Guess what? I’m slow.

He wanted to throw me off and boy did he do just that lol.

Gotta love engagement stories! Smiley laugh

Right after our dating anniversary FW planned a date night in Grand Rapids, MI that was all a surprise for me. We went to dinner and then went on a carriage ride through the city. The guy stopped in the middle of their blue pedestrian bridge, and she proposed there. My MOH and her BF snuck up behind me and attempted to take pics. Here's a pic of the ring and box she got!

We got engaged on our 3 year anniversary at home. I was listening to scary stories on YouTube, he comes in from work and he asks "how would you like to have something new on your left hand?"

We've had promise rings for for long as we've been together pretty much!

I said "wait, what?" I kept saying that over and over again, he gave me the box, and I opened it to see my ring! It looks like my promise ring, but "on steroids!" He sat next to me on the couch and asked me to be his wife!

His initial plan was to put the ring in the middle of a pizza from Domino's (we always eat Domino's at least once a month)...he says "but then I realized that would've been a CHEESY idea!" I said yes anyway!

We went to where we had one of our first dates, Letchworth state park. A lot of the trails were closed due to the winter weather downing some trees but we found one that lead down to the water where we began skipping stones. I bent down to pick up a stone and when I turned around he was on one knee and simply asked 'will you be mine forever? ' Of course i said yes! We celebrated with dinner that night at our favorite restuarant Smiley smile

It was our daughters first birthday party and leading up to that day FH kept saying we had to say a speech to thank everyone for coming and I was so against it. The day of her party he gathers everyone around and starts his speech. Our daughter who's a mommy girl is in a new outfit and trying to reach me that's when I read her shirt. FH gets on one knee and says me and princess want to ask you something she's wearing a shirt that says will you marry my daddy on the front on the back are two boxes that says check yes or no. Of course I'm bawling but I said yes.

We went to the GA aquarium for our anniversary. Both parents ended up tagging along cause one set had to drive us back and the others were in the area. We were in front of the beluga whales and he took my hands and said "Courtney, I love you. Will you marry me?" And we'll the rest is history. (Obviously I said yes)

We were vacationing in Alaska when he surprised me with a helicopter ride up to the glacier. While up there hiking on a guided tour, he asked the guide to "take a picture of us" and when I turned around he was down on one knee! So sweet!

Ours is a less than traditional story, as we are in a long distance relationship.

I asked my man to marry me after nearly 9 months together. I'd been thinking about asking him for a while, and I told him at 4 months "ya know, one day I may just marry you". I teased him a few times after that when he was being very cute, saying I would fly over and marry him if he kept on. That didn't deter him at all! Smiley xd

He actually referred to me as "Mrs Sweetness" at the end of 2018. At this point we still hadn't met face to face, but I had booked my tickets to fly out on February 13th 2019. I had wondered about proposing to him when I was over there, but I felt to awkward about it. After 8 days of being back at my flat, I was scouring pinterest and saw a post that resonated with me. I used it as a jump off point, and just came out with it at long last.

The online proposalJust For Fun: How did you get engaged?! 1

He thought on it for just over 24 hours, before saying yes with a sweet song. Smiley heart
