Just found out I'm Pregnant!

WinterMarie, on February 16, 2018 at 9:33 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 1 60

Hello all!

I just found out Im two months pregnant! Yay! Im due October 6ths- which is about a month before the wedding. I need advice on what to do about the dress for sure! I have no clue if it will fit but I'm kinda doubting it. Its a mermaid style so it is tight but I spent $2,000.00 on it and I don't really just want to try and resell it for $600 ( or whatever the internet will take). I appreciate all the help !!!

If anyone been through this can you tell me how you went about this.

If not, can you give me some ideas.

Honestly I know there are some preowned wedding dress sites that sell for a little more, but more than likely you are going to have to just take a loss and get a new dress

You should be fine. If you plan to breastfeed that will help the baby weight fall off.

    Congratulations

Congratulations. Personally I would postpone the wedding just in case anything happens during delivery and they have to do an emergency c-section which can take a while to recover from. Or if your late giving birth. One of my cousins was due on thanksgiving 2017 ended up not having it until December 6, 2017.

Every body changes differently during pregnancy however most places have a pregnancy pillow you can try on under your dress to see how/if it will fit. As long as you don’t go food crazy you will be close to your size after you deliver. I would suggest going to your alterations place and asking for a 5-6 month pregnancy pillow(it won’t be big) but that’ll give you an idea. Your uterus takes about 6 weeks to fully shrink back down. Another thing you need to think about is are you going to breast feed? If so you need a dress you can easily have boob access to. Even if you pump you will still need to do so throughout the weddin time.

Breastfeeding doesn't automatically mean weight loss. What it can help with is your uterus contracting so the puffiness can go away faster. If you’re due October 6, prepare to give birth as late as October 20th. A lot of doctors let you go to 42 weeks. I would find a different dress, and unfortunately, I can’t see doing anything but taking a loss on the original dress.

Could you possibly add a corset back if needed?

Our bodies do crazy things. I was able to wear a 2 piece dress 4 weeks after giving birth to my daughter. My stomach was smaller after birth than it was prior to getting pregnant.

Thats a good idea. Do you think I should do alterations now? My dress fit perfectly except for my waist and chest area. That needed to be taken in as it was too large. Should I at least do some alterations now so hopefully after I can manage to fit?

Also keep in mind if you’re breastfeeding you will be extremely thirsty and drinking a ton more which means frequent potty trips. So you want a dress you can easily use the restroom in

I really don't like the look of a corset back and I'm not sure if my dress can have one. I guess this will be a last resort before buying a new dress. It would be great to have a flatter stomach then before!

Thats really good to know! I wouldn't have thought about this. Maybe I can figure out a way to wear the dress for the ceremony and change after. That might also be a good idea

I just had a baby 3 months ago. I’m pretty thin to begin with and really only gained size in my belly. Try to stay active during the pregnancy to keep extra weight off, eat healthy and you may be fine. Usually you lose the weight/size more quickly with your first

One can only hope this works out perfectly! I eat a plant based diet so hopefully that is enough to help me not gain a bunch. I just found out and I wish I would have know earlier so I could have weighed myself to keep track. I normally don't weigh myself so I have no clue, haha.

    First, congrats!

I think you know yourself best. Do you typically drop weight easily? If yes, you may be ok.

    TMI:

Aside from that, are you still planning on going through with your original plans? I am asking because you don't know how you are going to feel after giving birth. If you have a c section, recovery can take weeks. I had a vaginal birth and I was still bleeding at a month out and I also couldn't sit comfortably until my baby was 5 weeks old because I had stitches. There are also a lot of very un-glamorous things that go along with postpartum healing- sweating (loads of it due to fluctuation of hormones), leaking boobs, hair loss not to mention fatigue.

My advice would be to either maybe push your wedding up or wait until several months after the baby is born. Good luck!

Talk with the alterations team see what they say. I had twins my first pregnancy and I walked out the hospital only 5lbs heavier and in my regular clothes. Definitely look into a reception dress for bathroom and breastfeeding ease.
