Karaoke - DJ Vendors please weigh in!

Beth, on August 25, 2013 at 3:47 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 6

I really want karaoke at my wedding. A LOT! I am just trying to figure out how to incorporate it exactly.

I don't want to do it all night - I am afraid people would not sing songs that people can dance to or would sing lame music that no one wants to listen to. Or would suck really bad. So I was trying to figure out how we could do a little karaoke without it overtaking all of the music.

So one idea is just to have a karaoke song incorporated in every 3 songs or so and have the DJ ask people to sing something we can dance to? My other idea (I saw something like this on Four Weddings) was to only have karaoke during the dinner hour and have it so people could sing us a love song and we would kiss instead of the glass clinking thing, which I hate.

Any thoughts? Anyone is welcome to comment but I would really like feedback from the pros and people who have had or have been to wedding with karaoke.

Amy, they did it during dinner, right? Was anyone annoyed about getting up during food time to sing?

Karaoke is fun if I'm blindingly drunk and that is the only ever time. It is also only fun if everyone else is doing it.

Personally I would hate it if I was told to sing this song or that song and when.

If you rally want to and enough of your guests will love it I would do it nearer tie end and don't force it on people.

I many years ago worked a wedding with karaoke it was done during the evening and was set up later on when people were a bit merry and I seem to remember people there liking it.

Hire a live band that is experienced and versatile enough to offer Live Karaoke. Have them make up a list of songs that they will play for your guests to choose from. That way they will keep the party going by performing several songs in a row - and then bring up the next person on the list for their karaoke song.

Having the live band means that you have good singers who can "assist" your guests in singing the songs if needed, and keep them sounding good.

Be warned right now - not every band is capable of this. But if you find a good, professional, very experienced band who is flexible - this can be a lot of fun.

Oh - let the band handle the cocktail hour, the dinner music, and your special events music (your entrance, first dances, parents dances, garter toss, the music behind the toasts and speeches, etc) and let them have the first dance set. Wait until the old folks and fuddy duddies have gone home and THEN start the Live Karaoke.

Good luck and have a blast!
