Keeping It In The Family

The Bride, on August 23, 2019 at 4:55 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 2
Today one of my coworkers shared a story with me about her husband. He is an Egyptian man that is apart of a tribe where the men and women are expected to marry their cousins. Nearly 10 years ago he decided to go against his family and marry my friend. Unfortunately, his family still refuses to accept the marriage.

What are your thoughts about the tribes tradition of "keeping it in the family"? Do you think the couple should continue to fight for the families approval? Why or why not?

It goes on the same line of arranged marriages. No one should be forced or bullied into one. I don't think the couple should fight for approval. Approval will probably never happen. A mutual understanding or respect is a good target goal. Respect they are married, that is his wife, and no one can say bad things about it when they are around.

I agree with you. I don't think the family has to approve of their marriage but they need to respect it to maintain a health family dynamic.
