Keg or wine bottles?

Daniela, on August 17, 2016 at 10:51 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 16

My FH and I are undecided about whether we should have two wine bottles per table (one white and one red) or a keg or two. Which would be better? Related question: how many kegs for 150 people?

I've seen a thread with this math a while ago, but with a standard 4ish ounce pour, two bottles of wine per table is really only enough to give every guest one glass.

Can't you have both a keg of beer and wine? How big are your tables?

You should do both - at a bar. On the tables results in a lot of half bottles - which is a waste.

    How long is the reception?

4 hours would be 5 drinks per person - so 750 drinks.

I think each bottle of wine is 4 glasses and a keg is like 180? Figure 50/50 depending on your crowd - if most guests are older 75% wine

What happens when those 2 bottles of wine run out during dinner?

2 bottles is fine per table of 2.

Right Bethany? You could put me down for half a bottle of white myself!

We did 8 kegs, 175 bottles of wine for 200.

We aren't doing hard alcohol and our crowd is a lot of heavy drinkers. We also aren't doing bottles on tables, all through bartenders.

Our wedding is from 4pm to 11pm

Full keg pours 180 cups(if done to correct oz)

Each person will consume typically 2 drinks the first hour, then one drink every hour after.

Lets just say 90 people drink out of your guest list, 1 keg would be gone in an hour. Another keg gone in 2

    How long is the reception?

Honestly, for the size, I'd go with 4-5 kegs if that is all you are offering.(unless it is domestic only, then good luck)

I photograph a lot of corporate events. What I have seen : a table of ten has 2 bottles of wine. One white one red. Throughout dinner staff comes around and replenishes empty glasses ... A lot. Perhaps 2 of each for a table of 10? I like the fact that I wouldn't have to get up for each glass. If you have wine available at the tables and beer available at the bar, your traffic will lessen significantly. That's a good thing. By the way, the wine is either brought out or uncorked upon dinner seating/salad presentation.

I think that depends on how big of drinkers your guests are. At our friends wedding some of our friends probably had an entire bottle themselves lol. I probably had the equivalent to half a bottle maybe more.

My guests aren't really big drinkers. I'll for sure have two bottles of wine per table (each table sits 8), with a bartender offering bottle service of course, and possibly 2-3 kegs at the bar, just to make sure it lasts all night.

Are they self-pouring the wine? If they are each bottle might only hold three glasses. People tend to over pour wine.

@cat, imo, there's no such thing as over pouring wine

@tara i'm having 150 guests. I was thinking that for cocktail hour i could have virgin signature drinks, and of course water and soda, and maybe one keg to start off the night. Then the other keg and wine during the reception.
