Kentucky Derby/High Tea Theme

sarahtrg, on July 18, 2014 at 10:12 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 11

I am having a Kentucky Derby tea party for my reception (big hats and all) but I'm having a hard time coming up with decor and centerpieces besides the obvious horse figurines. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks so much!

The Kentucky derby is the "run for the roses" so use a lot of roses .. Maybe some horseshoes or jockey silks

I'm doing an Afternoon Garden Tea theme. I found large teacup planters for the centerpiece base. I'm doing tortilla wraps (ham, roast beef, turkey, etc...), fresh fruit, veggies, cheese, brushetta, and spinach artichoke dip for food. And some kind of mocktail for the punch.

You can use something similar, but bigger than the mint julep cups filled with roses for centerpieces.

I really like Kimberly's idea of the jockey silks. By the way, I think your theme is really cool. Sounds like fun.

Maybe something with horse shoes? Or what about something that looks like the Kentucky derby trophy, but instead of a little horse on top, there were roses inside? Something like this, minus the little plastic horses and horse shoes.

We went to a KD themed wedding (well, horse race at least). The tables were named after race winners, drinks were mint juleps and something else (plus full bar) and that was about it. They didn't go overboard which was nice.

    Nobody wore hats.

Victorian lush romantic 1860 to 1915 era centerpieces, urns with blossoms spilling out over the edges

Loads of roses, mint juleps, big hats, maybe name your tables after famous tracks or winning horses.
