Keratin Hair Treatment- first Time!!

Faith, on February 22, 2018 at 6:33 PM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 10

Has anyone done a kertain hair treatment before? I want to do it for the wedding because I wanna straighten my hair for the wedding and then be able to wet it once we are on the honeymoon (and it not get frizzy!). I'd like to get it done a day before the wedding, for the first time. Any tips (has anyone done this before). ANY ADVICE WOULD BE GREAT Smiley smile

It makes your hair suuuuper flat and it can’t get wet for like 3 days. I liked it but my hair had literally no volume, so it depends on the hairstyle you want! I don’t think you can curl it or even put it back for 3 days- it has to stay totally straight.

Maybe do a test? 6 or 3 months before your wedding to see if you like it?

It actually depends on which one you get. The Goldwell Keratin treatment you can pull you hair back and get wet after a few hours but its very hard to find. It also doesn't contain formaldehyde as most of them do. I've had two treatments so far...one Goldwell and another brand and the Goldwell was like hair crack. It was wonderful.

Do not get it the day before. Get it a least a week before. You will not be able to wash it and it feels and smells a little something odd til washed. When first done it's super flat and after a still or so it will perk up a bit. I've been getting them for like 10 years but I got my last one about six months before my wedding because I wanted my hair to hold a curl.

So I won't be able to curl it? I wanted to have my hair straight but with curls...what should I do? Should I do the treatment, wash it and then have it straightened again?

You’ll have to get it done at least 3 days before the wedding because your hair will be extremely flat. I would personally get it done the week before.
The treatment that I use has different levels and I’m still able to achieve curls. Look for a smoothing treatment that that doesn’t totally alter your curl pattern.

I have been getting keratin treatments for my hair the past three years. I started with an 'express' treatment that lasts about six weeks...you can wash your hair after a day when having the express. Now, I get the six month treatment (just had it done tonight, as a matter of fact) and with that one you have to 'baby' your hair for 48-72 hours...no getting it wet at all, no hair clips, no tucking behind the ears, nothing at all that might crimp the hair. This is necessary to make sure the keratin sets correctly.

I usually plan the treatments for a Thursday so I only have one work day (hair looks great for this day) then I'm home on the weekend. It gets washed Monday morning before work so I am able to let the keratin sit on the hair undisturbed for over 72 hours.

I'll usually hold off on any clips or ear-tucks for two weeks to make sure the keratin is set up good. Once that happens, I can usually do whatever I want with it. It dries smoother and faster, and the frizz is virtually non-existent for a good 3-4 months. I use only authentic Keratin shampoo and conditioner purchased at the salon, a shine product called Glotion Potion and Infusium, both Keratin products as well. I spend a lot of money getting these treatments done ($225 for the Keratin on top of what I pay for color and cut) and a lot of time...the appointment to apply the Keratin along with my color and cut is three hours.

Disclaimer...I don't curl my hair. I much prefer it flat and straight and the keratin allows my hair to stay that way. Your hairdresser should be able to advise you on getting a curl into it. If you decide to do it, I highly recommend getting it done at least 6-8 months before to see if you like it, and if your hair will be able to be styled the way you want it ahead of time.

If done correctly by a trained professional, the results are amazing. The Keratin seals in hair color and keeps it very vibrant (BTW...the professional color used in my hair is also by Keratin). My hair is shiny, healthy and the color looks great with little fading.

In high school I had someone professionally do the treatment and it was awesome. I have very dry, curly hair so it would take me about an hour or more just to straighten it all down. I can't remember how long it lasted since it's been a while.

My mom came back from the canary islands with a home kit of it (I wouldn't recommend for your first time and especially before your wedding) and it's been great for me. I wash my hair, and it dries straight. I did curl it about a week after I did it and after I washed it, my hair was a mess but still easy to straighten it and now it dries semi-straight which is fine for me to run the straightener through and be done with it. It lasts for a few months so definitely don't do it the day before your wedding. My mom did it for me last month I think and my hair is still amazing. Someone mentioned that it would be flat flat flat, and I'm sure that's true but my hair had never been flat so I still have some volume to my hair, very similar to pre-treatment straightened hair.

I haven't tried to curl it again since my hair's been cut but will definitely curl it again in the future since I didn't have an issue beforehand.

Like others have said, you can't put it up, wash it, clip it, etc. for 3 days and then once you wash it you can do whatever you want with it.

Yeah I agree you should get it maybe a week before, you won't be able to do anything with your hair for 3 days. My hair is about 4B/4C so my curl pattern pretty much stayed the same after having the treatment a few times. My mother's hair is maybe 4A and she lost her curl pattern over time. It is an easy way to transfer from a natural/curly look to a straightened/flat ironed look.
