Keto VS Paleo (Quicker Results)

Melissa, on May 24, 2017 at 7:52 AM Posted in Fitness and Health 0 24

I'm a little more then a month away from my wedding and I want to lose some weight so I can look better in my gown (it's a corset, I have room to lose). I have had to be on steroids the last month and I've gained 12 pounds. Which of these give the fastest results? I plan continuing to follow the plan well after the wedding. We are doing a delayed honeymoon in February after FH returns from deployment.

It's not healthy to lose that much in a month. Learn to love your body as it is today and since you have a corset, no worries about fit. You'll look great.

12 pounds is doable, however like Lilly said its not very healthy. You said look better, so that means you probably look beautiful in it you just want to be smaller. Many brides do.

Not to mention the measures you would have to go with just a month out more than likely are not safe.

I've done research on both and it really all depends on your body which gives faster results. If you wanted to lose a few before the wedding I would have started at least three months ago.

You can start one now and see where it takes you, if you loose like 5 great, if not no one is going to think your horrible. Then you can keep on it after just for health reasons.

They're pretty similar, honestly but cut yourself a break and don't embark on anything drastic at a stressful (happy stress, but stress) time in your life!

If you do a 0 carb keto diet, you will lose weight fast. I lost 15 lbs in 1.5 months doing 10-25 carbs a day. (Without working out) However, I would stop 0 carb and just do low carb about 1-2 weeks before your wedding. When I had a cheat day and ate a bunch of carbs, my insides hurt. I don't want that to happen to you at your rehearsal dinner and reception. Also, I cannot stress how imporant it is to drink A LOT of water. TONS OF WATER. Hope this helps!!

Another issue with a drastic diet change like Keto or Paleo is the sudden drop in blood sugar. I've been researching Keto and have read that the first two weeks are the hardest and can cause alot of side effects that make you feel sick and run down, also have you craving carbs. I don't think 4 wees til your wedding a good time to start this but you could ease into it by lowering your carbs, eating smaller portions and exercising more. Also drink TONS of water! Avoid soda-pop and alcohol. When I've cut pop from my diet and increased my water intake, I noticed a difference in a week. Lost about 5 lbs doing that.

Another concern with Keto is the weight loss isn't always immediate. I know someone who was on this and she said it took a few weeks to kick start her body into fat burning mode before she noticed any significant changes.

    Sigh....

First of all Keto and Paleo are not actual "weight loss diets"

they are merely ways to eat.

Keto is specifically low carb (which by definition is a diet with anything where your diet is made up of less than 20% carbs ).

By DEFINITEION keto is low carb- BUT- the exact number that will put you in ketosis is different for person to person- and it's usually under 20%.

Paleo is not necessarily low carb. paleo is a general set of arbitrary guide lines some asshole made up and made it sound like paleolithic man ate that. Which is A. horseshit and B. again- not a weight loss diet. You can 100% gain weight on paleo.

Is it more difficult? sure- but you can do it.

If you are not in a calorie deficit - you won't lose weight.

If you go to low carb- odds are you'll drop a boat load of water weight from the cells deflating from a lack of glycogen- this comes back immediately after consuming more carbs.

My earnest and honest advice to you- let it go. a month out- a corset will fit you either way- so roll with it and love you're body- if you wanted to change you should have started months ago.

Change because you want to improve your body for your life- not because you want to look good on one day.

The people who do that are bodybuilder/bikini/figure/fitness/physique people- and they spend months training for that.

You aren't that- you're just getting married- he loves you as is.

    Go with that.

You really only have time to lose 4-6 lbs or so. Just count your calories and your macros. Cut out soda, alcohol, candy, etc. You probably won't lose 12 lbs, but it'll be something!

Uo... but I think 12 lbs a month can be healthy ... honestly it depends on your body ... I cut out soda (that is it ) and lost 10 lbs in a week ... just switching to water ... I have more weight to lose so I need to tweek my actual diet and get my lazy butt up ... seriously a 1500 calorie diet plus excursize you will lose weight . .. it's a matter of actually doing it ...

My MOH was on the keto diet, just because she's terrified of carbs (she loves fruit but hardly eats it because of carbs..: fruit is healthy!) it may have had to do with her other lifestyle choices and exercise habits but she didn't lose much weight. She did, however, feel very sluggish and had less energy than before. One she started eating carbs again, she gained that weight back.

Your body needs carbs- just make sure they're good ones and in an appropriate amount.

Keto is supposed to be faster than paleo. My GF lost 30 lbs in 5 months on it.

It's not going to happen in a month. Sorry. Healthy weight loss is about 1 pound per week.

I really don't think you have the time for either of these LIFESTYLES to cause any weight loss.

At this point, cut sugars, lower your sodium, decrease things that make you bloat (for me thats soy, dairy). you can try upping some cardio, but really I don't think you have the time.

Also eat less, if you cut 500 calories from your diet every day, you "should" (mathematically) lose 1lb a week (500x7=3500 = 1lb of fat), so theres 4-5lbs right there - but don't go less than 1200 because that really isn't safe

Keto if not done correctly will actually have you gaining weight. You body does a WTF and will go into the process of gluconeogenesis which starts converting protein end metabolism into sugars and the sugars covert to fat stores and even more weight gain.

To do keto you need to really be well hydrated and you have to check your urine Ketones 1 or two times a day especially first morning urine. To make sure you are not overly in acidosis.

@Svetlana - ketoacidosis and Ketosis aren't the same Smiley smile ketoacidosis is when your ketones are too high as a diabetic, ketosis you're just producing ketones but unless you have diabetes, your body just flushes out if not being utilized

Honestly I don't buy into these types of diets... because paleo is a stupid concept in general - you can't eat "like we used to" because food has been bred into something that only vaguely resembles its ancestors. Plus, back in the day when we were hunter-gatherers, it didn't matter what you ate back then because you didn't have the free time to laze around like we do now - obesity was not a problem for early man. Also, just because keto helps you lose weight doesn't mean it's healthy.

Focus on a healthy lifestyle and portion control. Cut back on sweets, fried food, junk food, and fast food. Eat whole grains instead of white bread/rice, etc. Limit your red meat. Eat more vegetables. Drink less alcohol.

Generally speaking, the best diet plan is the plan that you can stick with. I'm not a fan of keto or paleo.

Track your food and make better choices.

I know a bunch of people who tried the 21 day fix from Beach Body and they said if youre consistent with the meal plan and the workouts it really does work! Most people i know lost around 8-10 lbs in a month but that still a good amount to lose!

A few posters hit the nail on the head. It's a LIFESTYLE change. It's not "stop eating junk before the wedding and then binge on whatever I can get my hands on afterwards and never care about my eating habits again" which a lot of people think it is. The sugar dragon is real. Thor would have a tremendously difficult time slaying it. Someone with little commitment, like a person only wanting to lose a few pounds before their wedding, likely won't be able to stick with the headaches, lack of energy, irritability, hunger pains, etc. that come with the first couple of weeks adjusting to this kind of diet.

Seriously, just make smarter eating habits and stick with it for life. You won't lose too much before your wedding but at least you will feel better.

I didn't read all the above comments but I wanted to give some advice, sorry if it's already been said. I have been where you are! What people don't understand is gaining weight from steroids is horrible. But the good news is that it's really easy to lose if you try quickly after getting off. It's mostly water weight, so drink tons of water, sweat everyday, and don't eat lots of crap. If I were you I would just not eat shitty food, eat tons of fruits and veggies, and just relax. It will most likely come off easily because it's steroid weight. Good luck! I have Crohn's disease so I've had many battles with steroids.

Hi there, thanks for sharing the post. I have heard that regular workout and balanced diet helps in losing weight, but it is a slow process. I am also 54 days away from my wedding day and working for weight loss. I want to burn my feet, which is mostly in arms, legs and belly. While discussing with my friend she suggested me about thé detox which works well in reducing weight without any side-effect.
