Key West Wedding!!

HoneyannErisTM, on February 21, 2018 at 1:57 PM Posted in Florida Planning 0 18
I moved to Key West 5 years ago, my FH moved here 6 years ago and we met at Martini Monday (Virgilios). There are a lot of weddings here of course! Who’s having their wedding in paradise? Tell me your ideas!

I have an idea of what I want and where I want it but I have plenty of time for an open mind.
Thanks in advance!

Photo was taken at Sunset Key Cottages.

We are having the ceremony at Smather’s Beach, followed by a brunch at Hot Tin Roof. We were lucky enough to find an all inclusive vendor there, so planning has been not only easy, but fun.

Thats a great idea! And congrats!
I was thinking a public beach area followed by somewhere for brunch or something...
do you have ideas of places you want people to book for staying when they come or anything to that ?

I set up courtesy blocks at four different hotels, each with Different price points and amenities, as every single one of our guests will be traveling a minimum of six hours to get there. I also indicated on our wedding website some other options that we didn’t have blocks set aside. Just to give them ideas of the area.

Check out Weddings To Go Key West on the vendor tab here on WW. Eileen and Ray are amazing!! There are also a couple of other ‘one stop shop’ vendors as well. For a low key brunch situation, it’s a breeze! Stop by Hot Tin Roof, I’ll buy you a mimosa Smiley winking

Also, most public beaches charge a fee to use for Weddings.

Oh, and one more thing about accommodations: let your guests know that Key West proper has an ordinance that doesn’t allow Air Bnb or vrbo properties to rent for less than 28 consecutive days minimum. If your guests want to make a vacation out of it and stay for several days, they’ll need to find a place off island. We are staying on Stock Island for waaaaaaay less than renting several hotel rooms for our group.

    Love your pic!

We live in NY but Key West has been out special place from the very beginning. We are getting married this May at the Smathers beach and our reception will be at the Sheraton. Between Ceremony and Reception we are taking our guests on an island tour for one hour by Conch Train! I plan on finishing the night at Duval Street, more specifically at Sloppy Joes Smiley smile

We rented through HomeAway and we are staying 8 days. There are a lot of places that will rend for a week or more.

You are so lucky! There are some VRBO (they own HomeAway) properties that were grandfathered in when the ordinance was passed, but we weren’t lucky enough to have one available for our stay.

Wow I had no idea of this. We found a lot of lovely properties on HomeAway, the problem for us was that we anted a very large house (at least 4 bedrooms in Key West is hard to find!) and to have pets allowed (our pup is coming to the wedding) so it limited the options but still we found a very nice house with just the right amenities!

Thank you for the info. I guess I agree with you, we are very lucky~ Smiley smile

I didn’t either until I started calling the owners after getting weird responses off the site.

I could not love the fact that you’re bringing your pup with more!

I'm having a key west wedding this April on Sunset Key. The planning process has been pretty easy since its only 20 guests and we will use Latitudes afterwards for dinner. My only issue i'm coming up with is entertaining my guests during pictures afterwards, and we would like to do a first dance but don't know where. Perhaps on the beach?

Hey, what company did you use to plan your wedding and brunch? We are interested in the same plan, but not sure about wedding companies- the more all inclusive the better !

We’re having our beach wedding at Postcard Inn on Islamorada. It will be a sunrise wedding followed by a brunch reception. The PCI offered exactly what we were looking for. Our thoughts were if people are traveling, let’s pick a place that people could vacation at if they wanted.
Additionally, right in the middle of both airports for easy access.

My friend once suggested doing a sunrise ceremony on the east coast followed by a sunset reception On the gulf. We almost planned that when we decided on the keys to be our destination wedding.
