Kickboxing as a Supplement to the Gym?

Kait M, on March 28, 2016 at 2:24 PM Posted in Fitness and Health 0 11

My weight loss goals are to lose 9 more pounds by my engagement shoot in June and then an additional 10 by the wedding next March. I belong a gym and go there pretty consistently but they offer few classes at convenient times for me. I tried a free kickboxing class at a boxing gym and I think i could get into it but I'm hesitant about the extra money. I don't want to give up the gym completely, just kick box 1-2 a week to mix it up. I want to keep up my consistent strength training and I do have those days where i just need to zone out on a cardio machine. Working out at home is not an option for me because when I work out alone I lose a lot of motivation to push myself (it helps knowing other people are watching)

Is it worth it to pay the extra $60-70 a month for kickboxing twice a week?

Did anyone else kick box to get in better shape for their wedding?

Yes! I used to be a pro martial artist so the workouts are fantastic! It's total body and functional. Just make sure that the instructor knows what they are doing. I've seen plenty of instructors that don't know what the heck they are doing and they get people hurt. Check reviews.

YES! I am a HUGE kickboxing advocate!

I lost so much weight and toned up so quickly when I started kickboxing. It's a great way to really harness your energy and frustrations plus it will use muscle you didn't even know were hiding around your body.

I kickbox! I do it 3 times a week, and gym maybe twice a week. Sometimes I'll do weights at the gym after/before kickboxing. I think kickboxing is the best workout ever, it literally works every muscle and my body has changed a lot since starting.

I think it's worth it. Plus it is super fun so you may end up going more than 1-2x a week.

ETA: is it kickboxing with a heavy bag or without the bag? I know some gyms do "kickboxing" with no bag at all. I would recommend joining a real boxing gym, it's so much different!

I kick box all the time! The best, most rapid toning and weight loss I have ever experienced was when i joined the kickboxing gym. Sometimes, the kickboxing gyms offer other classes as well and have some cardio machines so totally check that out.

Or, if you have ClassPass in your area, its a great way to do it all!

I signed up for a boxing gym and a personal trainer there about a week and a half ago... I've already lost 5lbs! It's the best workout and it's never boring. The energy in the room fuels you! I love it, I have gone every day since I joined!

Yes, It's definitely worth it. The price seems a little high but you get your moneys worth IMO. When I use to take these classes, I felt like they beat the crap out of me lol. They gave me the push I needed that the gym doesn't give me.

Give it a try. If you don't like it, it's not a big loss and you might find out you love it.

Definitely worth it. I used to work at a Title Boxing Club in my area, and I saw so many people drop weight so fast. It's insane. The workouts are so fun! It's great total body workout, and perfect to supplement with what it sounds like you are already doing!

As any retired martial arts pro will tell you, kick boxing will definitely make you sweat. The works outs are amazing for dropping weight and increasing speed as well as accuracy. Just absolutely make sure you have a good instructor as Mountain Bride said, they can make or break a class pretty damn quick.

Also MMA is another good one if you want to start getting more hands on

I'm with you on not being able to work out at home and in my mind if i pay that much for a gym I'm going to use it as much as possible lol so thats my motivation.

As for kick-boxing, i've done a few classes and love it! My gym has classes included in the cost. Can't say however, id pay extra for classes if it wasn't included.

As for it helping with your overall weightless goals it aways good to mix it up and try something fun. I say go for it if you don't mind the extra cost. It will definitely help with your strength as a plus, once you have a good instructor and your one to push yourself.

Kickboxing is an AMAZING workout! If you have the money, give it a shot.

If you can motivate yourself to workout at home, the Les Mills Combat DVDs are really good!

You could pay once and have them forever.
