Kiddos at wedding

Hannah, on November 9, 2021 at 1:58 PM Posted in Planning 0 4

We have 6 youngsters that will be at our wedding.

3- 12-17 month old

3- between 3-5 years

Would you count a chair for the ones that are extra young.

Advise for meals that would be good for them to have, catering has mac n cheese but other than that not kid friendly. Thinking of things that we can have in the kitchen that would be good and easy for them to eat. Even if its just a bag of chicken nuggets and fruit. All of our guests that have kids live 8 hours away. Our venue is a self service we have no one from there helping so it is completely on our own. We also plan on having things like juice boxes in the kitchen for the kiddos as well.

Also any ideas for things to have for them at the reception to keep them entertained. We got clipboards and coloring books for all of them with crayons to keep them happy for the ceremony and the reception. But didn't know if maybe there was any other ideas for things we could provide.

Would love any ideas, I have an entire year til our Oct 2022 wedding so this is how old they will be when the wedding is.

We have a lot of kids between our respective families and i'm making "activity bags" for them, which will have either a coloring book for younger kids or activity book (word searches, mazes, etc) for the older kids, a fun twirly straw for their cup, glowsticks, a treat bag. At the cocktail hour, I'm planning on a bubble station plus we're having lawn games like cornhole, ladder ball and jenga.

I love the activity bags idea Ashlee!!

Since you only have 6 kids coming, it could be worth checking with their parents to see if they're all good with mac & cheese! Besides that you could also make little food bags/boxes for the kiddos with juice boxes, fruit, and other snacks inside!!

Many caterers offer chicken tenders standard for kids. If it isn’t listed, they often have it available if you ask.

If they don’t offer anything, I would order a catering pan of chicken nuggets/tenders from a local restaurant (Chick Fila or similar) to be dropped off or picked up by a day of coordinator associate. Does the caterer not have staff or do you need to hire some from Thumbtack.com?
As far as kids, they often are great at entertaining themselves. They will either play together or have fun on the dance floor without need for toys etc. The shy kids who don’t play with others may enjoy coloring books but many may not be used.

We had four little ones at/in our wedding. Our ring bearers were 3 and 5, and the flower girls were 7 and 8. I highly recommend coloring books. We got them for our kiddos, and they were a big hit, both at the ceremony and the reception. You should definitely talk to your venue about their options for children's menus. Ours had chicken tenders, which all of the kids liked. Now you have really little ones who may not even qualify for a meal, so in that case, you might want to talk to their parents about maybe bringing their own food.
