Kids table activities for ages 7 to 12?

Tia, on May 3, 2023 at 11:03 AM Posted in Community Conversations 1 6
We have children of our own, they will be apart of our wedding, and will be having children at our wedding. I can easily think of activities/favors for kids 6 and under but what is a good "older kid" activity/favor at the reception table (for the kids table) for ages 7 to 12 ?

Unless they are super shy introverts, and even then they get anxious around strangers their age, many in that age range feel “too old” for kid activities (coloring books, games, etc) and would prefer to dance and socialize without structured activities. Typically they are happiest left to their own devices.

Other than for younger children in a separate space with a sitter I’ve never seen planned activities for this age group. They’ll eat when everyone else is eating, talk, dance etc. Weddings are are great opportunity IMO for children to practice social skills.

Favors are the first thing to get cut on a budget. Unless they are edible, and sometimes even then, they get left behind. The same applies for kids’ favors. You can skip these and they won’t be missed.

I didn't do anything special for different age groups, we only had 5 kids under the age of 12 at our wedding so I just put a bag for each of them, it had a fidget toy, an activity book (so not just coloring pages but crosswords and such) and crayons, glowsticks (bracelets and necklaces), a foam large light up stick (we had more of these in a bucket for other guests), a small bottle of water, crackers, and a ring pop I think. I may have had one or two other things that i can't think of.

I agree that older kids don't really need extra stuff to keep them busy. They'll keep themselves busy by dancing or eating. A favor for the end of the night could be a good idea though, probably something edible if you can afford it
