Kids table or not?

Candy, on August 8, 2017 at 9:25 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 16

For the ones who are inviting children/teenagers are you doing a kids table or are you putting the them at the same table as their parents?

Ages range from 10-15.

Same table as their parents. I didn't want anyone else to have to "babysit" that table. No one sat for long anyway. All the kids those ages were the first ones on the dance floor!

Normally I would say with their parents, but those ages are old enough to not need direct watching. Are you close enough with the kids/parents to ask what their preferences are?

Children should be seated with their parents. At that age the traditional kids' table activities are unlikely to interest them anyway. They will be more interested in their electronic devices.

Really? I figured the teenagers would enjoy the company on their other cousins more vs their parents. We don't have any trouble makers to worry about so baby sitting won't be an issue.

Hmm, @futurekl that's a good idea. Talking to their parents for their opinion. Not sure why I didn't think of that. Thank you!

Our wedding is Adults Only (children under 13 years of age) except wedding party members' children and internationally traveling children. Those children (about 10-12) are all under 6 years of age and will have their own kids table and kids menu in the a separate room with the nannies. Children 13 and up are sitting with their parents.

Children at my wedding will be seated with their parents since the children attending our wedding range from ages 3 months old (my own son) to 13 years.

My next question, we are offering a "kids" menu for those 15 and under, they are all picky eaters based on our previous family functions. Would you suggest that I put their option on the RSVP slip or do I contact their parents personally about it? We'd select two options for them to pick from.

I agree with @Candy We are sitting teenagers (cousins) together. Only small children are sitting with their parents.

When I was that age, I loved that my cousin did this for us. Our table of cousins was a lot of fun. Smiley smile

We are sitting all children from 8-12 together, the table is closet to the dance floor so everyone can see them and they are having pizza/chicken tenders for dinner. On their table I'm giving them bubbles and coloring sets etc. I asked them if they'd want to be sat with parents or together and they all chose together!

Bubbles indoors, next to a dance floor? Coloring sets for 12 year olds? I don't think so ...

P.S. Just because they're 15 and under doesn't mean they would choose a kids' meal. Common responses on W/W is that you have to give them the entrée they request, whether it be a $150 adult entrée or a $15 kids meal.

Most 13 year olds, especially boys, need a regular entree not chicken fingers or fries or whatever is being served as the kids meal.
