Kissing games

Jennifer, on November 15, 2011 at 9:50 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 20

Hey ladies!! I need an idea. Not sure if your weddings traditionally have these, but here we are not allowed to do the glass clinking to get the bride and groom to kiss, so most weddings here have something else to get the couple to kiss. I need a unique idea that people will actually do and find fun. No children at my wedding as well. Anyone got any suggestions???

I say the no children thing because at my cousins wedding they did ring toss to get them to kiss, but only the kids played it so it didnt really serve its purpose.

You could try bells at the tables? Or talk to your DJ. They usually have a lot of games that guests can play to get the Bride and Groom to kiss.

We are doing bells, not because we aren't allowed to clink glasses, but at the ceremony we can't throw anything at the end (state park). So we are handing out bells to ring, which will be accompanied with a poem instructing guests to ring bells to see us kiss.

My FH is Russian and since our venue was unable to accomodate some of the other traditions, I'm going to use "Gorka" which is chanted by guests when they want the bride and groom to kiss. From what he's told me, it literally translates to "bitter" so we counter it with a sweet kiss.

@Sara P. - that is what my family does as well! I actually had to explain this to FH the other night! How are you explaining it to your guests?

Ahhh, the way we are doing it is, if they want us to kiss they have to SHOW us how it's suppose to be done. Them and their SO have to stand up and show us how to do it right Smiley smile

My cousin and his wife are big hockey fans. They had a board set up with a hole in it, a few hockey sticks and nerf-like balls. If guests wanted them to kiss, they had to shoot the ball into the hole.

I didn't bother because I have crappy aim and no patience, but I thought it was a really cute idea. A lot of guests participated.

@FabulousBride When my friend got married in April her FH wasn't Russian so she had the MC explain the tradition and it caught on pretty quick. I thought about adding info on the wedding website about it (create a "Traditions" page or something). But we will probably keep it simple like I did in my original post, if you think of something fun let me know! (8 days, you must be so excited!!!)

I think its a lot of fun and easier on the ears than clinking

We're not allowing the glass clinking, the MC will make an announcement that anyone who caught doing it will have to get up and kiss the person next to them.

We're thinking of having trivia questions, or the guest have to get up and sing a song with the word "love" in it to get us to kiss.

Ohh I like the DJ making that announcement idea! Because the hall was adamant that it not be done! Although so that they don't just do it and kiss their spouse maybe I'll make it they have to kiss a person of our choosing! lol Now that would be much more deterrent!!

I HATE glass clinking/bells ringing... I told FH that I want to have a fishbowl and fill it with the names of all the married couples invited. If there is clinking we draw a name from the bowl-- we will make sure that our name is in there 50% of the time...

IDK how well this will go over but I hope well!

@Anne Marie- we were thinking of giving the wedding party paddles with a 1-5 on them so they can score this kisses! FH thinks that might be too much though!

Lol Jessica too funny! I find stuff like that hard to judge if I should do it or not. Its hard to balance making it fun for us and our friends in our age group, while at the same time not offending or annoying my 90 year old grandpa and FH's 80 year old grandma! lol

I'm pretty sure I've seen something with ribbons, but that might be hard to notice since it's not an actual noise...

@Jennifer- I know my grandparents would enjoy it greatly.. I am more worried about FH extended family (meeting them next week for the 2nd time!). I got a hand-me-down fish bowl already though, Gonna just add a ribbon to the rim!

I have heard that in order for you two to kiss someone has to get up and tell a funny story or a memory they have of the two of you. That sounds like fun and I wish I had done that because it was getting really annoying will all the glass clinking.

In our family and circle of friends, you have to get up and sing a song with "love" in it somewhere. It is hilarious and provides some live entertainment. My dad and his friends always get my mom and a couple others of us to hid behind them while they lip sync. You will be surprised at what people will do, in a good waySmiley smile
