I was invited to a Kitchen Charm event with my fiance for attending the bridal show a few Sundays ago. Well, I received a text about attendance and I thought " Why not?, if I get anything free its worth it !" I was told we would be getting free gifts to just be there for a 90 minute showing of their cookware. By the end, I signed a contract. It had a 50 year warranty and they're products were amazing. We're waiting on them to arrive in the mail. It was not a scam and many people still got free gifts just for showing up. This was in Chattanooga, Tn by the way. I'm super excited !!!

JFC, the gifts are pointless if you're in debt almost 2k for a set of pans.

50 year warranty? My Calphalon has a lifetime warranty! I got 2 of their Unison group teflon coated for omlettes and the teflon was scratched. They replaced them for free! No questions asked.

OP you got scammed, sorry. Those "free gifts" yeah you are paying for those over and over.

    It's totally a scam.

Most people need three pans and three lids; a 8-9" omelette pan, a 12 inch saute pan, and a giant pot with a steamer insert.

You could actually cook through your whole life in one big Le Crueset Dutch oven....

50 year warranty. What happens when the company goes belly up in 5 years? Your 50 year warranty just turned into a 5 year warranty.

@Celia is so right. Even most sets come with 2-3 things you use all the time and the rest collect dust. Proud of my open stock choices on my registry!

Also a 50 year warranty when you could've gotten (probably better) pots and pans from BBB which will take back items no questions asked so long as you have a receipt or your original form of payment!!!

That 50-year warranty will be especially useful if that Kitchen Charm company goes out of business in 2 years...

And I bought a set of excellent pots and pans for about $200, and amazing Wusthof knives (10-piece set) for another $175. That's $375 total.

You spent $1,950, and even if your "gifts" amount to $1,000 total (which they won't, because I can almost guarantee you they come with all sorts of restrictions), you still paid way, way, way too much.

Yeah, and I completely get that you now want to persuade yourself that you got a good deal and not admit that you got scammed. Hate to burst that bubble, but...

ETA: now that I think about it, if OP was naive enough to make this purchase, what are the chances she got swindled on the financing, too?

@Marina where did you find an 18 piece set of Wusthof knives for $175???? One knife costs that much usually lol. We got a 7 piece set for $399 off of our registry and I thought that was a steal (for the quality)

@Anne H wustoff has several different tiers of quality and i think the lower end ones can be priced that low esp with deals at different retailers.

Oh my goodness... How does it seem logical to finance pots and pans?? Oh, and a knife... No way. This is very scammy. How do you know their products are amazing and will last after a 90 minute presentation? Good luck with that...

@Anne, it was an insane Black Friday deal a couple of years ago.

ETA: Sorry, actually, it was a 10-piece set, not an 18-piece (I edited the original comment for clarity). We bought the steak knives separately. Still a great deal, the 10-piece retails at around $500 or so.

The "Kitchen Charm" target market is the same person who opens a Victoria's Secret credit card, puts $200 worth of stuff "on sale" and then pays the minimum payment of $15.

Most things you finance as an individual now have a 24% APR. They are probably financed through Wells Fargo (that is their going rate right now). Ouch!

    Knives;

    a 12-14 inch chef's blade

    a paring knife

    a serrated (bread) knife

steak knives to compliment your flatware

    a cleaver, if you're serious
