KWR - 7 Wonders of the New World

Ashley, on March 17, 2016 at 4:28 AM Posted in Honeymoon 0 8

FH and I took a trip to Mexico right after we got engaged, and while we were there we saw Chichen Itza in Yucatan, Mexico which is considered one of the New 7 Wonders of the World. We met a couple there who made seeing all 7 a part of their bucket list and that was actually their last one. So we decided we want to see all 7 too in our lifetime! Our biggest contenders for a honeymoon right now are Greece or the Bahamas, and the recent honeymoon thread got me thinking maybe we should check another Wonder off our list.

My question is, has anyone been to any of them (Great Wall of China, Great Pyramid of Giza, Petra, The Colosseum, Chichen Itza, Machu Picchu, Taj Mahal or Christ Redeemer) and what did you think? Would you recommend any of them for a honeymoon trip?

I did Machu Picchu when it was becoming one of the new world wonders. Such a special time to be there. I was on a high school sponsored trip and 17 at the time....so I can't speak to the honeymoon factor. But Peru was an amazing place. When/if you go there, go into the rain forest! That was one of the most amazing experiences of my life!! Especially monkey island and staying at an eco lodge.

I've done all of them! My favourites, and probably the est for a honeymoon trip, were Machu Picchu and Petra.

I've been to Taj Mahal! India would actually be great for a honey moon but over looked. Flights are similar price to Europe but very cheap once you get there. If you fly into Delhi you can take a tour bus to Taj Mahal. It's a 5 hour drive but so worth it. The red fort is also in Agra. After you do that id recommend flying within the country to GOA,-India. That had amazing beaches and tropics. Nice hotels are rather inexpensive. An Oceanside suite at a 5 star is roughly $150/200 a night whereas here it would be $500+

The 7 New Wonders list was a marketing campaign with a lot of vote manipulation and had massive difference in popularity depending on where you lived. The reason most locations are Latin American was basically they were the only ones who voted. So take it with a huge grain of salt.

I recommend making your own list and not relying on a business stunt.

NowASeptMrs wow that's really awesome! We really want something we haven't done before with a decent price especially after a wedding and that sounds perfect I'll definitely look into it!

Lauren Z very good point. Both my FH and I have seen nothing of the world, neither of our families were into traveling or had the means to growing up so really I'm open to seeing everything and anything of the world that I can, these places and so much more. Btw, date twins Smiley smile

I'm going to Rome in August and will hit the Colosseum. I've been to the Haiga Sophia, which is one the the 7 wonders of the new world (i think!)

I've seen Machu Picchu and Petra.

Machu picchu (and Peru in general) truthfully left me underwhelmed, although I think that may have had a lot to do with the fact that we were on an organized tour with a bunch of cranky old brats. Never again.

Petra (and Jordan in general) were my most memorable trip ever. It is a relatively small country so its pretty easy to see a ton of amazing stuff in about a week. The people were SO NICE, I would absolutely love to go back. I think Jordan would make for a wonderful honeymoon. If you are a bit adventurous you can do things like ride camels and sleep in a Bedouin camp in Wadi Rum (obviously far from luxurious) but then you can pamper yourself at one of the Dead Sea Resorts afterwards. Its got a bit of everything!

I've been to Macchu Picchu (and most of Peru) and it was truthfully one of the most amazing experiences. If you don't make it on your honeymoon, you must see it. Peru is not very "touristy" in general, although Macchu Picchu certainly is.

It depends on what you are looking for but good luck planning your trip! (Note - I've also been to the Colosseum, and you cannot go wrong there either!!)
