KWR: Any teachers planning a wedding during school year (not on a break)?

I've posted here a lot and WW has been helpful. I'm just curious on my above question. The backstory here is- for very specific reasons- We chose April 29 as our date. I'm a teacher and I usually have excellent attendance at school because I hate making sub plans and I want to keep up the progress with my kids. Well- I started with a new district this year and April 29 doesn't jive with spring break. In fact, the week leading up to the wedding is the week the kids come BACK from break. I have talked to my boss about taking a maximum of 10 days off. I'm given 10 days per year and that's how I want to spend it: getting married in GA (FH and I are in CA) and honeymooning in SC. I may shorten it to 8 days but...anyway. He's ok with it but I'm getting major blowback from my MOH (a teacher) and my co-workers. Any teachers gotten married during random times of the school year?

@Jennifer, that's the hardest part. We are across the country and I have done nearly all the wedding planning dealing with a 3-hour to 14-hour time difference. The big things were planned from Japan and now I'm in CA and looking at a ton of flights going back East for various things. FH's mother just announced she is getting married in November. So- there's a flight to Philly for us. We are spending Christmas in ATL and doing lots of wedding things (tastings, meeting with Pastor, DJ, fitting, etc.) Then there MIGHT be a shower planned in the Philly area (talking stages right now) in Feb, and finally the Big Day. Everything but the Big Day is planned around a holiday or break. The honeymoon is not "10 days". In fact. at this point, I am not planning to take 10 days. I'm aiming for 8- 3 before the wedding and 5 after. My two main reasons are: 1) FH is in the Navy, we do not have the luxury of just waiting until the summer and 2) Our honeymoon is in Charleston. It would be again expensive to spend another round-trip back East to a place we really want to enjoy that isn't out of our budget or would require add'l travel (i.e., we would drive from ATL, stay in a B&B and maybe a hotel, see some sights, RELAX, etc.). We thought we wanted Hawaii for a honeymoon, but we are hoping we can do that for a 1st anniversary if we're still here in CA. And that WOULD be on spring break! Smiley smile

I am a teacher too and getting married April 7th which is the Friday before our spring break. I'm taking the week before off. I'm new to this district this year and in Florida my spring break was in March so that was my original wedding date but South Carolina is April. We are getting married in Michigan. I told my admin when I interviewed and the first week that I would be taking that time. We couldn't do summer because FH does golf course turf management and summer is his worst time. Figure out the minimum you could do and start there.

P.S. Planning a wedding and teaching is the most challenging thing! You got this!
