KWR: e-ring lost a stone!

Wanda, on June 6, 2017 at 12:52 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 10

GAH, I'm soo upset! I was looking at my ring yesterday and noticed that a stone has fallen off! I've only had it 3 months! So very bummed that I had to take it off so we could take it to the jewelers to see what they can do. I don't even know WHEN or WHERE I lost it - it could be any time in the last 3 days, between being on the boat on the river (in the river?), church, grocery store, laundry, anywhere around the house, etc, etc....

Going to the jewelers tomorrow evening to see what they'll cover.

If you don't have insurance on the ring chances are next to nothing.

Does your ring have a warranty? If any of the stone of mine go missing they replace it at no charge, but I have to bring the ring over to them every 6 mo to the store for the warranty to be valid.

I am really sorry that happened to you.

I'm going to make an assumption and if I'm wrong please let me know. If this came from a mall jeweler please take it to a reputable company like a private jeweler. Have them check all of the prongs. It may cost money, but it will save you a lot of grief.

I also have a warranty on my ring...I take it to be inspected every 6 months. Also will be having it appraised soon and adding it to our jewelry insurance rider.

This just happened to me!! so stressful. However mine was a tiny pacing stone in the band setting and when i did some research those are super common and know to fall out. Definitely check with your jeweler. FH and I were pissed because i have had my ring less than 90 days and so we called right away and we have a year warranty with them so we only have to bring it in to them and we have already applied for our insurance so that will kick in soon

I'm really hoping you mean a small stone in the band, not your center stone(s)....if so the whole integrity of the ring is likely compromised which is why it fell out. If its just a small one on the band, unfortunately it can happen depending on how they are set. I have lost 2 small stones on my band (10pt diamonds) because I got my hand jammed into something and it bent the ring slightly, allowing those two small diamonds to fall out. It was a quick and inexpensive fix, done same day. if you don't have insurance and/or a warranty....get one asap!

My jeweler always replaces stones as long as I bring it in every two months to be inspected and cleaned by them. I have a sapphire and diamond ring that FH bought me a couple of years ago and I've lost 4 (3 sapphires and. Q diamond) out of the 15 stones because they weren't set right and they have to redo the settings at one point.

I know that sapphires are classified as a softer stone so they break and fall out easily.

Best of luck! Hope it was insured or had some sort of coverage.

This happened to my wedding band. I haven't even been wearing it for a month yet (didn't wear it on the honeymoon) and already lost 2 stones! I stopped wearing it and we are taking it back to the jeweler as soon as he gets back from vacation! He is a local jeweler that my in laws have used for years so it shouldn't be a problem for him to replace them and check the integrity of the rest!

Hope you are able to get it fixed! Do you have insurance or a warranty?

Update: Although we haven't taken it to the jewelers yet, we do have the paperwork on it, and it is insured, or so it seems. It is appraised at almost $7K, and he got it at a local jeweler (not a big box store. I have another diamond ring from him that he did get at Kay Jewelers 6 years ago. I do have to take that one in every 6 months for inspection. In fact, about 3 years ago, it needed to have one of the prongs fixed. It was tough to have to take off the ring and NOT wear it!

ANYway, I used this same jeweler to make my "divorce ring" when I got divorced 16 years ago - turned in my engagement ring and wedding bands from my first marriage, bought a stone for one son's birthday (*the other was born in April, so I already had his stone!) They made me a mother's ring for it. When I got this ring, they took apart the mother's ring and set the 2 stones individually so I could wear them on a necklace.

I'm just stunned that the stone fell out in less than 3 months. Even if I had to have the ring inspected every 6 months, I still would have lost the stone! ARGH!

ETA: went to the store this evening. They are going to repair it for free, and rush the repair. I told her that I'd rather they take their time to make sure I don't lose any other stones!
