Labeling the RSVP cards

TheLuckiest, on March 29, 2013 at 9:55 AM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 10

Hi ladies! Some of you saw that i was working on the formal invitation envelopes yesterday. I finished those, and now I'm moving on to the reception and response cards.

I would like to print a small number on the back of each response card. I once helped plan a corporate event and I remember that some people did not write their names on their response cards, so we had no idea who was coming. Is this okay to do, so if I receive one without a name I know who to contact to verify attendance for placecards, or is it poor etiquette. Perhaps I did not look hard enough, but I didn't see anything about this in Emily Post. Thanks gals!

I'm not sure I understand, why wouldn't you know whose response card was whose? I wrote their names in the rsvp. is it in your rsvp anywhere?

Yep, we advise it, actually. A small pencil mark on the back or some ladies have found black light pens that you can't see in normal light.

And whether it's against etiquette is moot here -- you need to know who RSVP'd! Practicality wins this round.

I completely agree with Reenski. I think pencil works great and is the least noticeable to your guests.

I wrote a number on the backside and have it correspond with my list. I have had two already that didn't have their name on it.

I just started a similar post today! I'm definitely numbering them. I didn't think about pencil or pen though...

@JustReenski black light pens? would it be ok just to write in regular pen but keep it small, in the corner? I feel like pencil will get smudged

I'm probably being ridiculous, but would it be a good idea to do like, a 4 digit number, so that no one knows that they are number 150 on the list? Maybe that's taking it too far though.

As for writing in the names, I'm going to the kind where they write their own name in so that I have it how they would like it for the placecards. The style will be your typical M_____________________ sort of thing.

I think black light pens are a frivolous expense. If you have the money to burn, get them. But a small number in the back corner with a pencil or pen will do just fine. People will not be flipping over your rsvp cards looking for numbers. They will check a box and mail it (if you are lucky) I wouldn't worry about them seeing what "number" they are. Smiley smile

This has always been in my like top 3 wedding tips -- ABSOLUTELY number your rsvps!! i just did mine in very light pencil, in the corner on the back - i am sure no one even noticed it. honestly, i think creating a 4 digit code number isn't necessary.

    Yes, number them.

We just got super gorgeous letterpress invites for a May wedding. The RSVP cards are numbered on the back with a regular pen. However, there's NO space on the card to put the guests' names. I *think* I may still decide to be a decent person and put our names in.

But long story short, I just thought the numbers were smart, nothing else.

We wrote people's names in, but it was a small wedding for which we knew all the name issues so we didn't need people to help us out in that way for seats/place cards.

If you're leaving the name-writing up to the guests then the numbering idea is wise.
