I love keto. I started back in January (strict, strict, strict) and I've dropped 75 pounds. I know people write it off as a gimmick, but it's been a complete lifestyle change for me. I can never go back to the way I ate before – I don't even crave junk! Just produce. Smiley laugh

A loooot of water, Low carbs, Yoga, and daily Intermittent fasting (eat from 12pm - 8pm only and fast for 16 hours, or from 8am - 8pm only and fast for 12 hours) Avoid, alcohol, sugary treats and processed (fast) foods during your "eating" hours Smiley smile

I have done South Beach with success. I'm worried about my weight, but I know that my fh loves me as I am, any loss is gravy. He actually likes curves and I have an hourglass figure. But, I was wondering what you thought of it? Honestly, if I get hungry or feel like eating from stress (or similar) - not craving, coping - I've added a bit of fat (such as nuts). I am very muscular though only 5'1". More than anything I want to be healthy and have a long life with him... I'd love to hear your opinions... Thank you!

    Kimmi,
Does LC HP have the same effect on weight loss? I was told that protein also keeps you fuller longer.

    Hi ladies!

    Sorry for the late reply!

So I prefer a LCHF diet for weight loss, the reason why is the difference each macronutrient (fat, carb, protein) has on insulin release (our main fat storage hormone). Fat basically releases little/no insulin, protein releases a moderate amount of insulin, and carbs a whole lot of insulin in order to decrease your blood sugar. So basically the theory behind a LCHF diet is that your body is not requiring as much insulin release and therefore less fat storage occurs and also since your body will burn carbs as energy first, in a low carb diet once those carb stores are used up, your body will instead burn fat (which is how you see lbs just melt away for people starting on Keto/Atkins type diets).

And Laura - I think South Beach is a good option but it focuses more on just low carb vs low carb AND high fat. The high fat is so important (I know contrary to popular belief) because it keeps you the most full of all the macros and is delicious obviously! So basically just add more FAT if you do the South Beach diet Smiley smile

There's a great YouTube video by Dr. Sarah Hallberg "Reversing Type 2 diabetes starts with ignoring the guidelines"

I also recommend Dietdoctor.com for lots of helpful tips on LCHF diets.

Hope this helps! Happy shredding for the wedding!

I have been obese since i was 6 years old, and Ive tried everything but I have endo metriosis and PCOS which makes it incredibly hard for women to lose weigh, plus i have lower back pain, and sciatica, so i when i got engaged this summer and saw my endo dr and recommended bariatric Lap band surgery, because it would make my life so much better, help my PCOS and my endometriosis, and my back problems, and increase my chances of getting pregnant when the time comes a few years. I am only 28, I am having surgery tomorrow, with the band I have the potential to lose hald my weight at least 130 lbs by my wedding 12/12/20. Im excited to start my journey na dbe much skinnier for my wedding.

I know a bunch of others have already mentioned it, but I'm a big supporter of Keto. It is a big change and if you don't fully commit to it won't work, but it has drastic results when done correctly and healthily (i.e. not starving yourself and eating healthy fats not just more fats) FH and I are 1 1/2 months in and I'm down about 17lbs and he's down 25

I take it you do not hold Registered Dietitian credentials. Therefore, it is not wise to give out nutrition advice. Any legitimate dietitian would never say to be on a low carb, high fat diet. It is dangerous, especially keto. Please stop giving this advice and to everyone else, seek advice from a Registered Dietitian.

Kali, you have to understand that for the last half century or more, we all have been indoctrinated with messages that make the Ketogenic lifestyle seem completely crazy. And I don't blame you. If you have spent your life believing the PSAs (and antiquated, misguided teachings) about fat being the cause of all ills while a diet of whole grains, fiber, and carbohydrates are absolutely essential (which is false as you should know, because an essential nutrient is a nutrient that we must consume in order to sustain life *as are fatty acids and amino acids*, but sorry there are no essential carbs), it's going to be hard to swallow the complete paradigm shift that is nutritional Ketogenic eating because it contradicts a lifetime of professional dietary advice. But I do think it is irresponsible for you to not be open to looking outside the box (and deterring others from educating themselves) and start analyzing the data *critically* in order to advocate what's best for your patients and the ladies on this forum. I received a bachelors in Nutrition and Doctor of Pharmacy degree from a highly respected university top 10 university . A Doctorate of Pharmacy means I spent an ADDITIONAL 4 years being educated on the physiology of the body and how substances/hormones/etc. affect the body. With my knowledge of nutrition, I was able to meld these concepts together to realize food can very much be used as medicine and through my professional experience has been shown far superior to medicines in many cases. Unfortunately, after graduating and practicing as a clinical pharmacist I humbled myself quickly to the misguidings of the medical system (and plethora of misinformed professionals like yourself stuck in antiquated teachings) and sadly came to the conclusion that IT PAYS TO KEEP US SICK which is why clinical guidelines have not kept up with powerful newer, evidence based studies that show ketogenic diets far superior to the Standard American Diets (aka SAD) propagated by the misinformed professionals like yourself. Now, I encourage you Kali to do your due deligence, think critically, and not just believe every spoonfed piece of information/schooling we are given. To the ladies here, unfortunately all medical professionals DON'T always know what's best. The reason I challenged myself to learn about alternative diets/methods for health was because of my sister, she was diagnosed with prediabetes at age 26, and if she had listened to the Registered Dietician (with respect, who does not hold a doctorate) that she was referred to at the time (who told her to eat 60 g of carbs per meal and 15-30g per snack -- wowzer that's a lot of carbs!) I guarantee you she wouldve had full blown diabetes (because diabetes is a DIETARY DISEASE - get ride of what causes high blood sugar ie. carbs = reverse the disease) within a few years. Instead, I told her about keto and she lost 30 lbs (high insulin levels which are a result of high blood sugar lead to weight gain because INSULIN IS OUR PRIMARY FAT STORAGE HORMONE) and completely reversed her prediabetes and her health markers are all amazing. Now I encourage you ladies to seek advice from those willing to take the extra efforts to continue a life of learning and challenging the status quo, those willing to humble themselves for your best interest.

Kimmi, while I appreciate the response you wrote, I never said for anyone to not to educate themselves. Everyone should reach out to a professional and use legitimate information from legitimate sources and not wedding wire chat forums. Dietitians are a great resource to explain diets and I do agree with you that the ketogenic diet works *in some cases* those being to treat epilepsy, diabetes, and other diseases but a healthy person should really avoid these type of diets as they can affect function and have adverse impacts on LDL cholesterol. Fat isn’t bad and you shouldn’t eliminate because it needs to compromise 25-35% of your daily caloric intake.
Diet culture has ruined health for America and we should be pushing that people consume less than what we do now. Most Americans consume very unhealthy amounts of food everyday - that’s the problem. Like I said, I am not taking away from your education because really, good on you. But we should be referring people to professionals that practice this everyday, because I am assuming your primary job is Pharmaceutical in nature? There are many people that have Masters and PhDs in Nutrition and if people are considering any type of diet such as this they should be consulted.

I went through all of the phone calls needed in order to be “accepted” into the program, but cannot imagine putting that much money into something that I am not sure that works for me. They make you go through a 45 minute call in order to get down to the money situation... did I mention it’s thousands of dollars, thousands!!!! Plus if you decide not to continue before your year is up, they charge you $$$$ more!!! The guy I talked to was nice, until I said no. Then he pushed and pushed and pushed. Made me feel like crap for not going for it, when I told him I cannot financially afford it. Got off the phone FUMING!!
