Lake Tahoe Weddings in March

Amyrrah, on May 19, 2020 at 9:55 AM Posted in Planning 0 4
Our love story began in Tahoe and since then it has always had a special meaning to us. Due to COVID our original wedding was canceled, leaving us to get married in our home. We still want to host a ceremony and would love to do one in Tahoe. Since we did not do personalized vows on our wedding day, I would like to have our ceremony on the same day - March 28th. Does anyone have any ideas/advice for weather regarding an outdoor wedding in March?

I live near Tahoe. March can be unpredictable.
It won’t be super warm, I think temperatures are on average in the 40s but it can snow a lot in March. This year actually, I think we got the most amount of snow in March. There is chain control on the road when it snows and the road could close, you can normally know about a week or so in advance if it’s gonna snow.
Also, I recommend doing it in the afternoon like 3pm or so when the sun is the strongest and it’s the warmest. There are so many places to have an outdoor ceremony at Tahoe and it’s just so pretty so I think it will be really fun

Hi Anais! Thanks for your response. At the end of March is it still actively snowing? Do you think the lake will be covered in snow?

March is unpredictable honestly, I can’t know for sure that it won’t snow although there is a lower chance of snow at the end of March than at the beginning of the month.
The lake won’t be covered, the beach might have some snow, but I don’t think there will be so much snow that the waterfront is inaccessible, you will probably just need to wear boots.

Anais has already covered that the wedding can be unpredictable but that you should absolutely plan for snow. An outdoor ceremony sounds uncomfortable unless every guest is used to and loves the snow.

That said, your biggest consideration should be access/travel. Where will your guests be traveling from? You will have no way of knowing if there will be chain controls on the major roads in and out until that week. If you plan this, you will have to accept that some people won't be able to make it last minute if a storm comes in. Make sure all of your guests buy refundable airfare and only book hotels with lenient cancellation policies.
