Lantern Centerpieces

Holly, on August 10, 2016 at 7:21 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 29

Ok so I am back and forth with center piece ideas... at first I made a centerpiece with a chandelier from michaels and made balls of fake flowers on the sides.. I decided I didn't like it anymore.. so I went to the florist to start getting prices for a small bouquet.. they still in my area start at $50 a table and I hate to blow all that money on something that gets thrown out.. I'm brainstorming and I love the ikea borrby lanterns.. the 11" ones are only 7.99 each ... has anyone made a sample lantern center piece yet or have ideas?

I also asked florist how much for ring of flowers around the lantern because I think that will also give a nice look.. and its still about the same price..

    Pinterest is your friend (sometimes).

What's your inspiration/feel for the reception?

Haha yes I have so much pinned! The wedding is fall so the lantern is a nice touch. But I always imagined sparkles.. but flowers I think are just not in my budget.

If you want to go to the effort, you can get flowers in bulk from Costco and make super simple pieces to go with the lanterns.

Check out target! They had a lot on clearance. Also Pier 1 had lanterns on clearance.

I used lanterns as Centerpieces for an engagement dinner party, paired with bud vases with 3 roses and a small amount of babies breath each. It looked very pretty and it was super easy!

This one is $15 on clearance at Pier1. Its near 20 inches tall and they have more than 20 in stock!

Here is a picture. I got the lanterns at Amazon, around $20 dollars each.

This is my $7.99 ikea lantern. Worth every penny. They were fantastic! I did half my tables with lanterns and the other half gold boxes with garden flowers.

This is what I was playing with, but with the total cost of fake flowers and lanterns I think it's still going to come to about $40/ table

Ikea for the win! Bought the led candle for $5 at Hobby Lobby. Our florist is doing a wreath of white hydrangea and red baby roses to go around the bottom. These will be our centerpieces for 1/2 of our tables. They will be on a white tablecloth with a black lace table runner.

If it's for a fall wedding why not use fake leaves in a ring instead of flowers? Just a suggestion. You can buy round Styrofoam rings at hobby lobby or Walmart and hot glue gun fake flowers to the ring along with small plastic pumpkins Smiley smile

I decided against the big amounts of flowers for my centerpieces too. It was just not cost effective. Michaels has since been my friend .... Along with some votives and bud vases and your good to go

We are thinking of doing the *same thing, since flowers are crazy expensive, I plan on playing around with lantern centerpieces in the next few week. Here's an example of what we want to try and do.

    ETA: autocorrect can suck it.

I'm on the lantern/mason jar hunt as well! I wanted flowers in the mason jar and im hoping it will be much cheaper since its a small jar maybe 3 stems some greenery and babys breath? I dont know. Im pretty clueless as to florist prices but i do agree the prices are ridiculous for something you throw away! Fall has the options of candles, leaves and mini pumpkins! Even look into circular wood slabs to put the lantern on to give a more fall look without flowers.

I am thinking a white lantern on top of a glass candle plate with rhinestones that I got from hobby lobby (to give it more height and to look more presentable) with lavender and white rose petals around on the table and those tiny mini pumpkin and I can spray paint them white and dip bottoms in glitter... once I make a sample I will post. I still am trying to keep the price down but I love sparkles and fall so I'm trying to incorporate both.. but my girls are wearing dark purple and their flowers are lavender and white so I don't really have any falls colors cause I wanted to keep it in the purple shades. THANKS so much everyone

We are thinking about doing lanterns too. Check thrift stores in your area too. My grandma is big into crafting and finds them at the thrift store and then repurposes them into beautiful centerpieces so its definitely worth checking into to save some money!
