Laser Cut Invitations DISASTER

McKony, on April 8, 2015 at 8:26 AM Posted in Planning 0 11

We are having a reception 8/15 in the Midwest for our family. I am in the process of ordering invitations for the reception now. I ordered several samples from various sites & fell IN LOVE with this lace laser cut invitation form WPD. The invitation imo is expensive, over $4/ea, for invite only. There were issues with this sample & I waited months for it to arrive. It took so long that I was just about to order the invites w/out having seen the sample.

Well, the sample arrived yesterday & I AM SO GLAD I DID NOT JUMP THE GUN & ORDER! The invite looks like shit! The laser cut areas have brown burn marks/singe marks throughout/inside the entire pattern! There is even a yellow tint to the top of the invite where the machine cuts out the pattern. I can not believe it!!!

I am about to call WPD & see if this was a mistake. Has anyone purchased laser cut invites before? Is this what one is to expect? The picture looks perfect, unlike sample.

I tried to get a picture of the actual sample they sent, showing the singed pattern, but I can't capture it on my crap phone. I have attached a pic, but it looks much much worse in person. You can kind of see the brown inside the pattern. It is inside the entire cut-out on all edges. You can not see the yellow tint on the top of the invite, over the pattern, in the attached pic.

Any help/experience with laser cut invites is much appreciated! I was not planning on rethinking the invites.

I can see what you are talking about. i think it may be safer to get a different one considering how long it took them to get the sample to you. i really liked that one too when i looked online.

We love laser cut invitation, but due to the price, we are not ordering them. For what it's worth, I think the singe/burn marks are whey this is a sample. However, I could be wrong. I would definitely contact them, but I would not take a chance.

Yeah, those do not look like they are worth $4/invite. Honestly, I would find something else since you are short on time and they are so pricey.

Thanks Surfergirl! They actually overnighted this invite to me!

The invite sample was backordered & I had called twice before after being promised my sample was on it's way. When I called for the 3rd time Monday, they apologized & overnighted me a sample.

I can not believe they sent this! Smiley sad

That has to be a mistake! I ordered that sample too and although I was less than impressed for the price, mine wasn't that bad! My concern with the laser cut invites is that they are so fragile in all but the heaviest paper. Mine had a tiny part that wasn't totally cut (had some scrap paper still attached) and it was bent in the sample folder. As gorgeous as they are, I don't know if I would risk ordering them unless you have extra time for a reprint in case some are damaged (WPD should do that for free).

Wow!! I ordered a bunch of samples from both WPD and minted in November, and WPD STILL have not sent me my laser cut samples - I emailed customer service asking why they were not sent and I received a very curt email in response saying that there was absolutely no timeline for when they would arrive... now seeing yours I guess I don't have to wait to find out! Smiley tongue

Yes, some laser cut invitations do have a slight burnt effect in the cut out areas, but not all paper types have the same effect. Less intricate designs have less burning effect. I have ordered lasercut items from Storkie Express as well as custom laser cutting by Cards and Pockets that did not appear the least bit like what you have shown above. There is some darkening, but not to that extent.

There are some great options by Carlson Craft also that may suit your style and budget. This one is just $329.90 for 100 Printed invitation with blank envelopes (inner and outer in ecru) without the matching liner. The liner adds another $160.

Thanks for all your help ladies! Those are beautiful invitations Goskell, but I am afraid of laser cut now.

I spoke with WPD & was assured that this was a problem with the sample. I was informed that there may be minimal imperfections, but that my 100% satisfaction was guaranteed. I was promised a refund or reprint of any misprints if I went forward with my order.

IF I hadn't waited 4mo's for the sample, IF the sample wasn't crap, & if I wasn't so pressed with time, I would consider, but after thinking about it all day, I just could not justify taking this gamble at that cost, because of my small quantity order, the invites are actually around $4.35/pc. I still can not understand why such a horrible sample was sent.

We regrouped & went with an all new invite from Minted.com. I am feeling much better about the decision. Here's what we went with, it works perfectly for our vintage themed wedding with blush & gold colors. Once I ok the proof, they are on the way Smiley smile

    Thanks again!
