Last Minute Beach Ceremony

crystal, on October 30, 2017 at 1:09 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 11

We were supposed to have our ceremony on a gazebo over the water in Key West but due to hurricane Irma we no longer can. Our Venue just told us we need a new spot for our ceremony - 2 weeks before our wedding. We can very easily move the ceremony to the beach in the sand, but my dress, along with all of my BM dresses are already hemmed for heels - as the original ceremony was going to be on a wooden pier. I don't want to wear my heels in the sand because that will be so uncomfortable but I want to wear heels for the ceremony. They gave us the option of laying down a large white or light oak dance floor to cover the area for the ceremony but I fear that would look a bit ridiculous, especially in pictures. The only other option is to have the ceremony indoors, which isn't something we would necessarily care for... any advise on ways to make this work would be super helpful & appreciated!!!

I got married on the beach. Its okay if your dress drags in the sand a little. It shakes right now. Def not something to overly stress about. Do not wear heals on the sand, that's just asking for disaster. Last thing you wanna do is twist an ankle at your wedding...

I think the dance floor will be fine.

Can you wear wedges or a sandal with a small wedge?

Couldn't you go barefoot for the ceremony and then wear the heels for the reception?

You could ask or look into the option of just getting (or renting) a wooden walkway. Or just take them up on their dance floor option.

Things happen. And although they may not be ideal, you have to go with the flow. This seems like a minor hiccup. It'll be fine!!

I would just walk barefooted. If the dresses drag a little it won't look bad. Or maybe just a wooden aisle? If you do choose the sand I would let your guests know. They may want to change their own shoe options.

If it makes you feel better I've never looked at someone's wedding pictures and thought 'what a stupid looking floor'

Haha that does make me feel better!! I would switch but the reception was supposed to be the only thing in the sand. It's definitely not a huge deal just hard to change my Vision so close to the wedding after planning around it for the past year. I think I'm just going to go with the white floor for the ceremony & hope for the best! Thanks for all your feedback everyone!!!

I don't think the dance floor option would look ridiculous (the light oak is still a neutral and shouldn't take away from the beach scene) if you want to stick with the dress shoes for ceremony, but personally I would opt for going barefoot for ceremony in the sand and then just slip on your heels for the reception. The sand shouldn't be damaging to yours and your BMs dresses, and if the texture of the fabric is what you typically see for beach weddings (light/flowy) it would look just fine to have them on the long side. I definitely would say you shouldn't go for the indoor option as I'm sure embracing the beach atmosphere was a factor in choosing that venue in the first place Smiley smile good luck!

I am so sorry. That is quite annoying that they waited until now to inform you. I know it is easier said than done but try not to stress. Unfortunately you cant change this. You will have an amazing wedding ceremony whether its indoors, barefoot or on a dance floor.
