Last minute vendor cancelation

Tina, on August 16, 2021 at 3:47 PM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 10
My hair/MUA artist bailed on me and my wedding is next Saturday. Well, I guess he didn't technically ditch me, he wanted to move me to 10 am for my 6 pm wedding. It is just me so I'm guessing he wanted to have time to book somebody el$e. I am frustrated and kind of stuck at that point. I'm curious how often this happens. I would be mortified if I was a young first-time bride with a huge wedding.

Oh no that sucks, could you see if he could move it a little later? Even 12pm would be better. But if not, I personally would go ahead and get it done, especially my makeup because I know that mine would last and mine usually takes around an hour. Did he give you an estimated amount of time it would take for both? Just curious.

You have a contract, right? Technically he can't do that if you signed a contract specifying the time...

It's a bummer, and as a pp mentioned if it's contrary to your contract, I'd try and fight for a later time, but someone who is talented at wedding HMU should be able to do it so that both your hair and make-up lasts for 12-15 hours, so it might not be a total loss (especially since it might be very difficult to find a replacement on such short notice). Daughter's ceremony began at 3:30, and the HMUA started on me at 7 am and probably started daughter's services by 8:30 am. We left her studio around 10:30 to meet the BMs and photographer back at our house for pre-wedding photos and we left for the venue at 12:30 to be ready for first look at 1:15. The HMUA gave daughter a selection of "touch up" products, but I don't think she even needed them. She looked just as good at 10:30 pm as she had at 10:30 am. Good luck!

I don't trust that he wouldn't just not show up if I forced the issue. I told him my hair would not last that long and that I could just try to find someone else. I immediately got an email saying he'd canceled my appointment

If you're now scrambling to find someone new, you might try Thumbtack. The only vendor daughter added last minute was a videographer (she'd been up in the air over whether they wanted to spend the money for it and only decided to go for it about 6 weeks before the wedding). That was the first time she used Thumbtack and she was very happy with the videographers she found. It might help you quickly identify vendors that may be available for your date and read reviews, etc., versus cold calling a bunch of people at random. Good luck!

I would browse Instagram in your area for a hair/makeup artist. And if you can, try to get a refund of some sort.

If it is just you getting services, I would look at nontraditional bridal options. Call local salons. You can even check with a local department store or Sephora. Also, ask the original MUA if he has any recommendations.

If you go on facebook they have wedding groups and they have vendors who can help in situations like this.

That's very frustrating!! If you booked him in advance and had already agreed on a time, it's so unprofessional for him to cancel so last minute. I wouldn't want my makeup done that early either. Check out facebook or search here on Wedding Wire to find a new makeup artist!! Hopefully the new one is way better anyway.

A similar thing just happened to me although our wedding is still a month out. My hair/makeup stylist apparently just figured out where my wedding was and how long it would take her to get there and said she wouldn't be able to show up until 2:00PM (cause they have another bride they are working on at 10:00am). This is supposed to be when my photographer is showing up for us to do portraits around our mountain venue so now I'm stuck either trying to upheave my entire schedule or find a new person. I don't really want to work with this person anymore, but I may still try to get them to see if they can adjust the time for their other bride. I'm looking on Thumbtack, insta, fb as well and will let you know if I have any luck. Hope you end up finding something that will work for you! Good luck!!
