Last name dilemma

Christina, on August 17, 2024 at 2:53 PM Posted in Married Life 0 1

So my husband and I are already married yet still haven’t settled on a last name and want to before we start having kids. My last name is similar to Cainzmeier (10 letters) and my husbands is Miller. When we got married I just added his last name to mine and I have two last names now, as I couldn’t just go from my unique last name to plain Miller…

However, I don’t want to give such a long last name to my kids and it’s sitting funny with me having them be only Millers also, as our town has a lot of Millers with no relation to my husbands family (large Mennonite/Amish community).

I think my only options I’ve thought of for my future kids are:

- Cainz-Miller

- Miller-Cainz

- Cainzmiller

- Cainz as a second middle name for all kids, Miller as their last name (only options I wouldn’t change my own name to)

Any other ideas? Pros and cons? My husband isn’t the biggest fan of hyphen names but I’ve personally never had to deal with one (neither has he).

I sort of like the Cainzmiller form. The hypened names are a bit clunky.
