Are you keeping your last name, taking his/hers, hyphenating, or creating your own??

I took his, but looking back wish I would have just kept my own. I was worried about seeming like 'that girl' or appearing 'difficult'. It's just a name and I liked mine. I do like that kids, H and I all have the same last name, but that's really the only glaring positive for me. Otherwise it was just a lot of work to get it changed, lol.

I took his last name but my made my maiden name my middle name so it still is my full name without hyphenating.

I thought about hyphenating, but it would make our combined name incredibly long (like 18 characters). I also thought about making my last name my middle name, but that's also legally a lot of work. As an artist my last name feels important, but I've never been fond of it. So I'll most likely take his name just because it's easier.

I’m taking his. I’m the last of my last name on my moms said of the family so it was a really hard decision. But I definitely wanted to take my fiancé’s last name as well.

I'm hyphenating. I like my last name and my dad always wanted me to keep it.

I’m still on the fence! I really like my name, and don’t love his. But I do think I will prefer having the same name when we have kids though. I could hyphenate - some of my friends call me the hyphenated name as a joke now anyway so I am kind of used to it, but I also don’t really like the look of a hyphenated name, so I don’t know!!

I'm changing my name! I'm pretty excited about it even though I agree with the others it will likely be a bit of a PITA to change! I think that's always been my default position, with the exception of if the last name sounded ridiculous with my first name (like Rosie Palms or Rosie Garden or something).

I like that we have so many choices these days, and having thought about it quite a bit, I've decided that it would be super cool if it was more common to smoosh last names together.

Like if Smith and Taylor got together you could pick Smaylor or Taylith, or some other variant I haven't thought of!

It means everyone is making the same sacrifice, kids have the same last name, and there's an element of creativity and choice. I know someone who hated her partner's last name due to the associations (think slaughter or butcher or something like that) but still wanted to change her name. A smoosh name would have resolved that issue!

(thank you for coming to my ted talk, lol).

I’m changing mine. I don’t love my last name and my FH really wants me to take his last name. I don’t really have a preference so I’m happy to take his last name since it’s important to him.

I changed mine. Soon after, I had a brief period of disappointment about it, but it went away quickly. Ultimately, I'm happy I did. Granted, I also have has a tumultuous relationship with my family, and my father especially, so that may be part of it.

I changed mine to his. I felt like it was a transition into the next chapter of my life and I wanted to have the same last name as my future kids.
