Last Song of your Reception

The New Mrs. Compton, on September 22, 2014 at 10:01 AM Posted in Planning 0 45

What song are you guys doing as the last song of your reception? I went to a wedding a few weeks ago where the last song was "Don't Stop Believing" by Journey. It's a great song to end to, but unfortunately it wasn't a dancing crowd, so the song fell flat.

What are you guys thinking as your last song?

We're doing wagon wheel by old crow medicine show. It's a song everyone will know, a song we would ALL belt it out to when we were drunk at the bar back in the day haha. I love it and it will definitely end the night on a high note. I'm not sure why...but I hate it when they end receptions with fast dance song. It ends thing awkwardly.

It's a fine line. Fast songs are good, but it's awkward, but at the same time, I don't necessarily want the last song to be a slow song!

Yeah, ours is right in between. You can't slow dance to it by any means, but it's not a "dance club" song either.

@KirstenMichelle, I've never heard of that song. Is it a country song? I will have to look it up.

I was thinking of maybe Sweet Caroline or Bohemian Rhapsody as the last song. Both are favorites of my friends and family, and they aren't too fast, aren't too slow.

Don't Stop Believin' is a staple closing song in Manitoba, so that's what we're gonna go with. By then it's 1 a.m., people are hammered and everyone's on the dance floor singing along.

We will ask everyone to join us for the final songs of the night. Slow to What a wonderful world. Then the dj will say this evening can't end on a slow note and we will do something awesome like nsync bye bye bye

Soon to me mrs compton: The version I have (Old crow medicine show) can be seen as country, but if you want a country version, Darius Rutger covered it as well. It was ORIGINALLY done by Bob Dylan.

I wanted it to be "Save the last dance for me" by Michael Buble, but my DJ must have lost my notes and didn't play that. Instead he played the song that I walked down the aisle to "Beauty and the Beast" by Jim Brickman, and he made an announcement about ending off the eveing the way the day began. Which I thought was also sweet. I was ok with the change.

We did the time of my life - the song from dirty dancing. It went over really well. Everyone was on the dance floor and circled around us. It was a pretty cool moment.

@KristenMichelle.... I've been thinking of having Wagon Wheel as our first dance song, LOL. I hate mushy love songs and I'm trying to think out of the box.

Don't Stop Believin' is a great suggestion.

We're thinking "Best Day of My Life", by American Authors, or "Wake Me Up" by Avicii. We want something to get people riled up for the farewell, something danceable, but also we wanted something that the lyrics had at least a marginal tie to our feelings about the day.
