Late night snack

Jade, on August 13, 2021 at 11:51 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 1 11

Is a late night snack worth it? FH & I cant decide if it would be a hit or go to waste. Our wedding is in the late fall so I was thinking either doing smores (the venue has a fire outside where people can roast them) or soft pretzels with cheese and honey mustard. We have room in the budget but if we decided to not go with the late night snack we'd have some more wiggle room on stuff like a photobooth.

We don't have the schedule set in stone, but cocktail hour will be from 5-6, then dinner (i am guessing this will start around 6:30ish), then dancing, and our reception is done at 11. We were thinking of doing a little after party also for friends and family that want to go out.

For cocktail hour, we will have bruschetta, salmon canapes, and chicken satay. Dinner will be rolls, ceasar salad, tortellini, then steak/chicken with a vegetable and roasted potatoes. We have three types of cake for dessert.

So would it be worth it or should we just skip it?

Personally I would not partake in a late night snack. However, if I did I would go with salty over sweet (especially if you're having 3 types of cake).

I’d put the money towards something else. You’re supplying a great dinner (sounds delicious & very filling) plus 3 types of cake- that seems plenty!

If your guests drink a lot then I would do the late night snack, because I personally get hungry after drinking a lot and would appreciate it. Especially if you have it in your budget. I know it wouldn't be a waste for my guests.

However, if you don't think it'll get eaten then definitely spend the money elsewhere.

I agree! It’s a know your crowd thing. The pretzel sounds perfect after drinking.

You could also do it as a "favor", have the pretzels with to-go bags and lids for dipping sauce.

My fiance and I really wanted to do pizza as a late night snack, because our venue has this awesome pizza oven, and it's my fiance's favorite food, but we have 6 butlered appetizers, a cold station and a carving station at cocktail hour, 4 entrees (buffet) and three sides plus a salad and pasta station for the dinner, and a dessert bar along with the cake and we think a late night snack would go to waste.

I definitely think it's a "know your crowd" thing. At the last wedding I attended, the meal served for dinner had So. Much. Food, that I couldn't even think about food the rest of the night. They had a candy bar and pizza as a late night snack available, but because I was so full from dinner, I did not partake in the late night snack. If you think your guests will be hungry later on in the evening, providing a late night snack would be a good idea! Otherwise, it's fine to skip it. I love Ashlee's idea of providing the late night snack as a favor, so guests can either eat it at the reception if they're hungry, or they can take it home with them for later.

I personally love a late night snack at weddings. I indulge in the alcoholic beverages so a late night snack is appreciated. I especially appreciate them when it’s a plated dinner because it usually is pretty light. I think it’s best when people can eat them at the end of the night or take them to go. We will have two late night snacks at my wedding. We’re going to have a mini doughnut station that makes fresh doughnuts and Haitian patties! We will have bags so people can take either home with them.

I know my guests will drink a lot so I am doing a late night snack to get something in their stomachs before leaving. I’m very fortunate that my caterer has a sister restaurant that does artisan pizza so they do a late night delivery of FANTASTIC pizzas. I’m probably a little more excited for that than the actual dinner 🤫

I definitely think it is a know your crowd. for instance for me i knew my guests were not gonna stay THAT long. but if youve got a more party going crowd, it could be worth it
