Late save the dates

Our wedding is 5 months from today. Being the procrastinator that I am, I have not sent out save the dates yet. Is it too late? Should I save myself the time and money and skip them or should I send them out this week to give my guests a heads up so they don't make any plans on our big day?

Oh nooo, I was in the same dilemma and I went ahead and ordered my Save the Dates Smiley sad Most of our guests are scattered all over the US and abroad, though, so hopefully they won't go to waste. And my parents' guests, who are within 2-3 hours' drive of our venue, aren't getting them because my parents still haven't given me names and addresses yet (which makes me cranky). I'm planning to send out my invitations late May/early June.

It does seem like a waste of paper and money in retrospect, but I don't think any of your guests will be upset or offended at your timeline (and maybe upon receiving them, some of them will reach out and let you know whether they can even make it--you might save on invitations, which are much more expensive!)

I'm also August 5th and I procrastinated and just ended up skipping them. My numbers are higher than I would like* so I didn't even want everyone to save the date. I think save the dates had their moment in the spotlight and over the next few years we will see them less and less.

*NOT over capacity - our venue holds 120 and we are at 113 but ideally would like under 100 to come - some are family members I don't really like.

If your wedding is a DW then I would. You could also send invites just two to three weeks early if you have lots of travellers

I would skip them. My wedding is in Sept, and I also opted out. I feel like its too close to when invites will be sent, and everyone I know already knows the date considering the wedding is ALL I talk about. The only way I see STD's as a necessity is if you have a ton of out of town quests that know nothing about your up coming wedding. Smiley smile

@Future - there is always a lot of "smile and nod" when you hear people discussing their wedding planning at work, lol

We are having a destination wedding and also want to do Save the Dates. I think it depends on the location and number of out of town guests. We are also holding a stateside reception, but probably won't do STDs for the that.
