Lay flat photo albums

Ashley, on January 10, 2018 at 8:52 AM Posted in Married Life 0 9

Hi all,

I just received my wedding photos last week and would like to create a lay flat photo album with some of our favorites. I've read reviews for a number of vendors (Shutterfly, Snapfish, Artifact Uprising, Picaboo, Mixbook, etc.) but would like to hear some reviews from real brides. I want a book where the photos can be printed across two pages, with high paper quality, and that will not discolor the photos.

Thanks in advance!

I haven't gotten married yet, but i have plenty of experience in shutterfly and am always pleased with the product i receive. i plan on using them for our wedding photos.

i was an art student in college and used them for my physical portfolios. i made two books from them and both times the quality was awesome, the hardback is sturdy and the pages are thick enough that they're not delicate, and i didn't notice any discoloring or distortion in my images. the colors looked as similar to the ones i had edited on computer as i could hope for. i wish i had pictures of the book itself because i would post them. its definitely worth the cost, and i like that it comes with templates for displaying your photos if you're not into designing the book itself.

Bride AND photographer here! Smiley smile Please don't print your photos or albums from places like Shutterfly, Snapfish, CVS, Walmart, etc. Those computers and printers are not calibrated to accurately print colors and they will not do your wedding photos justice!!

I always recommend Nations Photo Lab to people. It's what I used to make my own wedding album, it's what I use for clients, it's a great company! They have albums starting at $99. You can also try Mpix and Artifact Uprising (I have not used those, but they are other ones that are highly recommended by some photographers).

I originally didn't want to use Shutterfly because I know they're just not as good as "real" photo album sites. I wanted to gift a book to my mom and a book to my dad but missed the deadline for a few other printing companies so I took the chance with Shutterfly. I'm really happy with how they came out. I didn't upgrade to the "lay flat" option but the book lays flat anyway. The photos look good, maybe not PERFECT but no one can tell the difference. The other great thing about shutterfly is you can create your book and wait for a good discount. Ours was 40% off and I think we ended up paying $45 per book with extra pages and whatnot.

Thanks, Rachel! This is exactly the kind of thing that I was worried about. I figured the Shutterfly, Snapfish, etc. prices were too good to be true so I really appreciate your input!

You're welcome! Shutterfly can be okay for personal everyday photos and albums, but if you're spending a lot on photography to begin with (which most people do since it's quite an investment), you might as well spend good money on a service to ensure they are printed beautifully as well! Smiley smile

Take a look at NPL and hopefully it will be something you like. I'm not very technology savvy when it comes to computers and stuff, but even I can figure out NPL Smiley smile

Ughh this is why we need vendors! Jay used to always recommend a really good website for albums. I'll come back if I remember what it was.

I did a shutterfly lay flat book for my mother-in law. I think they turned out amazing. The lay-flat album with matte cover is nice. I got 2 for 60 bucks! Do Shutterfly!!! They weren't distorted or anything and my pictures looked great. I was really pleased with with how they turned out.
