Lazy about church decorations

OhCarol!, on July 12, 2016 at 12:46 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 27

I'm getting married to Mr. Traditional, so it will take place in a Church. I had originally planned on not decorating it at all, but now I'm wondering if I should. Anybody else leave the church unadorned?

I'm doing very simple decorations. A burlap and lace aisle runner and then these are going to go on pews:

I've also contemplated not decorating the church, just seems like a lot of work and the church is very nice as it is

It depends a bit on the church. Is it already beautiful? If so, decs probably aren't needed. If it's not, you might think about pew decorations, maybe floral arrangements on the altar that can be reused at the reception.

We are not decorating the church. I don't think anyone will really notice and to be honest when you look back at pictures you look at the people -- not the decor. This was an easy budget cut! Smiley smile

I really don't want to because my church is already pretty grand? (idk how to explain it) but my mom is insisting on having something on the pews. I am doing something very similar to FutureMrs.C but with gold ribbon tied where she has a flower. It shouldn't be too expensive and it will make my mom happy.

My chapel is very strict about what they allow/don't allow, and also quite beautiful in itself. I'm pretty sure we're just putting flowers on the altar.

@future, simple is good! If I do decide to decorate, it will have to be very simple. The wedding is in 11 days.

@chip, that's what I thought, too. The church is pretty as is. I need to decide today or I won't have time to pull it together.

Church decorations are mostly based on your personal preference. I'm doing an aisle runner, something for the chairs, and a few flower arrangements in the front and that's it. Smiley smile

Put your money elsewhere. I'm leaving mine basically as is except for a couple flower arrangements at the front

We hung wreaths on the doors (I wanted a little wedding feel for when people first arrived) but that was it. The bride and groom/bridal party/event will be visually enough.

The church I'm getting married at will have fall flower arrangements (fake of course) on the alter so I'm doing these but only on the first four pews on each side.

We got married the week after Easter so it was still decorated. I'm with Sargey!

Thanks for the advice! I will stick with my original plan and leave the church in its beautiful, natural state. I really think it looks more elegant that way. Plus, it's less work & $.

I'm lazy so we're just doing rose petals and candles or lanterns down the aisle. Two gold columns when the door opens with bouquet of flowers and an arch at the alter

I'm leaving the church un-decorated for the most part! It's a pretty sanctuary already, and I just couldn't justify spending more money on decor for just the ceremony location Smiley sad All I'm doing is 2 floral arrangements on either side of the altar which will then be re-used at the reception!

The church was beautiful on its own! We had leftover flowers from the florist and some tulle so my mom did a couple arrangements, one at the readers stand and a few in the first 2 aisles for the bridal party and parents.

My wedding was in a church chapel and I didn't decorate it either. We just used floating candles to mark the aisle and decorate the cake table.

The chapel was so beautiful I tossed the ideas for the flower arrangements once I realized that nothing was going to compare to the beauty of things like the stained glass. So I just went with simple things to compliment it.

btw- do you have a picture of the church? Would love to see! Smiley smile edit for add on

Don't sweat it. Take one of your reception centerpieces are put it on a table or in front of the altar. Yes, the pew decorations are lovely, but once the music begins and the processional starts, all eyes will be on the human beings, not hydrangeas wrapped in tulle and taped to pews.

Host your wedding well -- good food, good cocktails, and good entertainment. and I promise you. the majority of your guests won't even remember ceremony decor. All they will remember is that they were guests at an amazing wedding.

Spend your discretionary funds decorating the reception venue. You are all you need to decorate the ceremony venue.
