Length of Honeymoon?

ThatGirl, on February 2, 2018 at 3:32 PM Posted in Honeymoon 0 24

Wondering what people think is the best length of time for the Honeymoon...

I feel like in a perfect world longer is better - I recently went on a 4 night/5 day trip with my mom and felt like it took us a few days to actually unwind and get into the vacation headspace and then it more than half over... I don't want this experience for my Honeymoon -

FH also only gets one week of PTO so anything we take above and beyond that is going to be time he misses from work - thankfully they will let him take the time, he just won't get paid for it. Personally I think it's worth it - we will take many vacations but only get one honeymoon...

I think my goal is 9 nights if we can manage it financially...

I think it just varies from person to person. We're doing 5 days in Switzerland and 5 days in Portugal. For us, it seemed perfect.

We are going for 6 nights 7 days. I am taking a few days off before the wedding so I can’t stay out of work too long. Lol. I won’t want to come back.

We are only doing a week, which is enough for us. I have the PTO to take but we have a few other shorts trips we need to go on as well for people's wedding out of state next year. FH is an EMT so he can't miss much to begin with.

I'm not going to want to come back either!!! Smiley smile

We are getting married in January and actually putting off the HM a couple months - I will probably take a couple days off surrounding the wedding too - but FH probably won't be able to. I am allowed to carry over some vacation time so I am being very careful to save some from this year so I can use it next year.

It depends on where you go, the shorter your travel time the more you'll get out of your trip since you won't need as much time to unwind! It's good you're doing it a few months after the wedding so you won't be exhausted. I would say try to go for 7 days at least, if you can. We got really really lucky with our jobs and are going for 16 days, 15 nights.

The longer you can be on your honeymoon is obviously better, but neither my FH nor I have a ton of PTO to burn. We are doing 6 nights, but we are staying within the US.

I think it depends on how far you are traveling- we have a 5 hour flight down to Mexico which leaves us the afternoon to play, and we are heading back in the afternoon so we kind of have an extra day between the two. For me I stress out when I am away from home too long- we have 2 dogs, and we live in San Diego so every weekend kind of feels like a little vacation with all the things to do and wonderful weather. For me 5 days is plenty for a vacation- I do wish I took a couple days off when we get home but I work from home so it isn't too bad.

I think it depends on the trip. I spent two weeks in Australia a few years ago. Less than two weeks wouldn’t have been enough time as I was visiting friends and relatives and exploring a new country. I only got to see a fraction of it even in the two weeks. But I wouldn’t have been able to put my life on hold for longer than that - even if work wasn’t an issue.
For a regular vacation, our ideal length would be 8 days max I think. We miss our pets after that 😀

Totally personal decision but I think 10 days is perfect since you lose 2 with traveling. Our was 8 days because my husband's PTO is very limited. I took an additional week off after since unlike my husband, I get a ridiculously large number of days off.

I think you and I are on the same page! I get a very nice amount of PTO and poor FH only gets 5 days... and he can't bank what he doesn't use this year for next year which is kind of a bummer... while it isn't ideal he won't get paid for it, at least they will let him take the time unpaid.

5 days??? I thought my husband's PTO was horrible and he gets 10 days (includes sick time). It's so short sighted of companies to be stingy with PTO. People end up coming in when they're sick because they don't want to use their limited time.

It sucks that your FH won't get paid but at least they're letting him take the time. And yes, it's worth it!

I personally think 10 days is needed for any vacation. 1 day to travel 1 day to relax from the travel 3-8 for enjoying sights day 9 for travel and day 10 to relax before going back to real life

We’re doing a whole week but I’m taking two weeks off from work and the weekend of my wedding. We’re going on a 5 day cruise because we couldn’t find a 7 day and then spending the weekend in Florida.

5 days. I want to do more, but my job only allows us to take 1 week of vacation at a time. Its a stupid rule, but i'd literally have to come back, work for one day, then return to vacation for a week. Otherwise I'd take 2 weeks.

I think we're going to try for 6 nights/7 days. Our budget doesn't really allow for more than that. I have plenty of PTO, and will take off for a day or two before our Friday wedding too, but FH doesn't get any paid vacation, and will be taking his time off unpaid.

If it was possible, I would go for 10 days.

We're doing about 12 days. Still deciding for sure.

But our honeymoon is two months after the wedding. We're taking three days right after the wedding as a minimoon, but staying in town.

We did 2.5 weeks. It was amazing and I'm so fortunate we were able to. I saved up CTO at work and FH can take as much off as he likes but it's without pay. It took a lot of sacrifice leading up to it but 100% worth it! It was so so nice to just be in our own little married world for so long with no other obligations.

We are doing a 5-night cruise out of Baltimore. We'll get back on Thursday and have a few days to unwind. Or maybe extend the honeymoon another day or two just sightseeing around Baltimore or Washington DC. (We live in Pittsburgh.) I'm looking forward to having those few days to just do whatever.
