Lesson of the Day: Do not register at Wal-Mart

♥ Elizabeth Nicole ♥, on August 7, 2010 at 5:43 PM Posted in Community Conversations 1 16

First, the registry machine wouldn't work. Took 15 minutes trying to get it to work with an employee. Then, the registry is organized by what it is, not where it is in the store so basically it sends you on a wild goose chase to find the it...ems. And to top it all off, I get to the register to check out and the freaking lady has absolutely NO idea what the hell to do with the registry... she doesn't know what it is and she is trying to figure it out so I just tell her to ring me up and I will take it to customer service to get it taken care of. Well THEN I get over there and they have to RETURN the items I bought off the registry in order to re-buy them and take them off the registry... ugh. It was a complete and utter disaster.

I'm not judging you if you are registered there. But I would definitely keep it in mind that your registry is not helpful to your guests finding a gift in Wal-mart. You basically have to find each item on your own. I was seriously there for an hour (cont.)

I'm a Target gal too, and at least their registry has the exact location of my items, starting with the section of the store, then the aisle number, and then the position number on that aisle. Talk about easy shopping!

For those of you who do have a Wal-mart registry and would like to register somewhere else here is what you do. Go to Bed, Bath, and Beyond they will pull up your Wal-mart registery and move it to theirs then they will help you find other things you might want... That's what I do at BB&B.

I work at walmart and let me tell you those registries are a bi*tch! Usually the customer comes up to us and asks us to find it and 9 times out of 10 we don't have it. Usually its and item we've deleted or we just didn't carry it in the first place-- especially true if the couple registered at a different wally world. Unfortunatly I'll be registering at walmart because the only other thing my town has is a small kohls.

I was planning on using Walmart because it's the only store local to some of our out of town guests... I might seriously reconsider it now...

I wanted to register at Target, but the closest one is 20 minutes away and I've got 3 Walmarts within 10 minutes...

The walmart I worked at, they removed the registry machine, so everyone has to go to Electronics to print it out.

But scanning off a registry at the check-out is so easy, my friggin nephew can do it. I hate when clueless people work in a interactive store if they don't know what they're doing. Unfortunately around here they'll hire just about anyone with a brain, whether they use it or not.

AH, I could have told ya this one....Walmart=evil.

Not sure what Walmart means, in the cities all of our WW brides are in, but, in my city, it is not a good thing. We are a city (and surrounding areas) of over 2 million....Walmart is hated here.

Go anywhere else! Do not give your money to a company that sends jobs to third world countries!

I work at a Wal-mart and I'm sorry you had such a horrible time! We usually do not get a lot of registeries so it doesn't surprise me that they didn't know what they were doing...even though the page tells you. And yes a lot of the stuff we don't carry because not every walmart carries the same stuff...

We were going to register at WM for baby stuff a year ago and they had completely taken all the registry kiosks out of all the stores in the twin cities! There was no gun to scan no place to print it out so we vetoed it indefinetely :-) Sucks you had a bad experience though! How hard is it to scan the barcode on the top of the piece of paper in front of their face?

I'm a target girl too, but I've had the same problem at Target before with having to return and repurchase to get the list scanned. But I had a friend register at Walmart and her list got mixed with a baby registry..so people were asking if they were getting married because of a pregnancy! She was mortified!
