Letting Bridesmaids Pick their own dresses?

JessicaIsTotallySmithen, on June 2, 2016 at 2:43 PM

Has anyone just given the bridesmaids a swatch of the color you want and told them a length and let them have at it? What were your results? Do you have pictures? I really just want all my girls to be comfortable and happy with their choices and then they can spend as little or as much as they want....

I told mine black and knee length. I wanted them to get something they would wear again. I have seen two out of the four and i love them!

I did! I told them the colour I wanted and each chose her own dress. Two didn't like the options at DB but didn't listen to me when I told them to get a swatch of horizon blue and go get a dress anywhere.

I told my bm, long navy chiffon dresses. It made it so much simpler to get what they were happy and comfortable in verses going through dress upon dress to find one that they all would look good in.

I am a BM in September and we used Azazie. The bride chose the color/fabric and we chose the dress we liked, making sure we didn't all have one type, etc. It worked out well.

I sent mine a picture of the dress I was wearing, and the colors for the wedding. Told her as long as she didn't pick the same dress as me which was available as a bridesmaid dress in other colors, to do what she felt comfortable in. One less thing for me to do and I trust her. Her boyfriend of 1 year is coming (she's 19) and she's already nervous.

I love the look of mixed dresses! I originally picked 3 different dresses from the same store in the same color, length, and material that my girls could choose from. Due to an unfortunate circumstance one of my BMs didn't get her dress on time and ended up having to pick from whatever they had available in the warehouse in the right color, so we ended up with four different dresses. They all looked wonderful, and each girl was able to feel comfortable in their dresses. I definitely recommend it!

My girls did this. Just make sure if they order it, they try on something in that color first. My MOH loved her dress, until it came in and she hated herself in the color. She's going to keep it, but definitely a headache and heartbreak she could have avoided.

My sister sort of did. She picked a collection of dresses from a designer I think there were like 12 dresses to chose from. She picked the color and floor length and then we each picked the dress we liked from the collection. It worked out great and everyone was happy.

I have two BMs (technically one MOH and one BM) and initially asked them to wear a shorter dress in whatever color they felt like. This was stressing my mom out too much (who is helping my teenage sister MOH shop for a dress), so decided on black or navy. Other BM already has a navy blue dress she is going to show me when she visits. I really don't care, but also don't want to stress them out.

My SIL did this when I was in her wedding 2 years ago and I'm doing it for my wedding, too. Like someone else said, it's definitely a win-win. I have 4 in my BP and they all wanted to go to pick out dresses together. I chose the color (navy), MOH in a short dress, BMs in long dresses, and they tried on a bunch until they found their dresses. Two of my BMs chose the same dress, but I seriously didn't care. I just want them all to be comfortable and feel beautiful. I can't wait to see them all together!!

I did exactly that. I love these pictures and I think they look great. Because in the end not everyone has the same body. Its better have people wear what they feel most beautiful in than everyone wear the same thing. The pictures come out so beautiful when everyone feels and looks their best!! I cant wait to see how great my girls look.

I said cocktail length and black. Figured it was the easiest route Smiley winking I love how it turned out!

We have wine here, not bouquets, but all the bouquets were made of different shades of purple with some ivory.

eta; a photo with the bouquets

I wanted to do that! We went to DB and I told them to pick a fabric. They decided the fabric, but two girls liked the same neckline (and I didn't). We actually found a dress that they all loved (minus one...) and we got that! I love the look of the mismatched!

I'm not married yet so no pics, but I gave mine a color theme from pinterest and said to just pick something. They both (only 2 bridesmaids) don't like the freedom. "PLEASE GIVE US SOME DIRECTION" lol. I honestly just want them to feel beautiful and comfortable on the day of. I told them I'd go shopping with them.

I was in a wedding last year where the bride told us long and plum. It turned out beautifully, but damn was it a pain for us! For my wedding (same bridesmaids basically) they've already requested that I just pick something and they'll buy it. I do love the look where all the dresses are from the same store and the same color just different styles though, plus it makes it easier on the BMs.
