Lgbtqa+ Wedding

Elizabeth, on January 26, 2021 at 1:55 PM Posted in Planning 2 28

Hi, is anyone in here planning a same-sex wedding?

My name is Ellie, and I'm engaged to Sam. I'm 29 and she's 28. As you can asume, we're both women. I proposed to her after two and a half years of relationship, and she wasn't expecting it. We're getting married the 10 of september, 2022, but we wanted to start planning already. A friend of mine recomended me this website, so we're planning it here, but it seems this is a straight wedding website. There isn't the option to choose the gender of the integrants of the couple. I just wanted to know if there were any LGBTQA+ members that could share their experience.

Thank you so much.

I'm not lgbtq, but there are plenty on this site. Hopefully someone will chime in soon and let you know their experience, but we welcome all ❤️. Welcome to wedding wire & congratulations on your engagement 🤗

Congrats & welcome to WW! I love this website for the forums but I’ve seen a lot of people having issues with personal domains they purchased through here. I use The Knot for the wedding checklist. My daughter is gay, just got married & used The Knot to help her plan.

Congratulations on your engagement! How exciting! I am not a member of the LGBT community, but I am definitely an ally, and many of the site's participants are too. This is not just a straight website, it is an inclusive one. I've seen several LGBT couples seeking and receiving advice on this website without issue.

Hmm. My wife and I planned our entire wedding using vendors strictly from WeddingWire because they require vendors to be LGBTQIA+ friendly when signing up. I’m not sure why you think it’s a “straight website,” as they ask for your partner’s name when signing up, not your husband’s. Is there an item you found to be gender specific?

Congratulations on your engagement! I think you will find many brides and grooms as well as those already married that are part of the LGBTQ community. And others, like myself, that aren't part of your community but are supportive.

I also think that in order for vendors to be represented on the site they must be an inclusive vendor (no discrimination). I could be wrong about that, but I do think that's the case so that should help with looking for vendors and avoiding the ones that do discriminate.

    Good luck with your planning!

My wife and I just got married this past Sunday and I used WW. There’s some queer couples on here I’ve noticed. Venders are supposed to be lgbt friendly. It’s been fine overall, but if you ask a queer specific question, straight people will jump on it. Be prepared for the overwhelming heteronormativity in the general wedding industry. That was the most irritating thing. Our hired vendors would still send paperwork that said Bride/Groom. Congratulations and good luck!

Thank you, we kind of expected that, but apart from that i am happy with the website. I think you are right, heteronormativity is quite common on the wedding industry, some of my queer friends have warned me about it. I'm sorry to hear what happened with your paperwork. Congrats on your marriage and good luck to you too.

We planned a same sex wedding using vendors we found from Wedding Wire. I have found the WW community to be very accepting of the LGBTQA+ community!

Congratulations! My girlfriend and I are getting married in 2022! I’ve definitely found that most wedding-related things in general are still pretty focused on straight couples. It just takes a bit of sleuthing to make sure you’re working with vendors who are open and supportive. For instance, if a photographer or venue only had straight people, or only white people, on their website I just clicked right on by, even if they had great reviews. It narrowed down my options pretty quickly and I feel confident with who we’re working with so far. The forums here have seemed welcoming, even if not LGBTQ-specific. I also follow a lot of queer wedding blogs and social media accounts, which is something I recommend doing.

I unfortunately cannot offer you any expertise on this, but I just wanted to say a major congratulations. Love is love and should always be celebrated. It’s so rare to find your “person” so who cares if they’re male or female?! This is such a happy time, and I hope you find this forum to be a place where you can gush about some fun wedding planning details, and get support about how beautiful I’m sure your day and your marriage will be. Wishing you both a lifetime of joy, success and love! You are welcome in this community ❤️

First of all, congratulations on the engagement! Welcome to the wonderful madness that is wedding planning.
We're a same sex couple 👍🏼 and have found this site to be super helpful. Also, I've also noticed there are queer vendors on here, although not specifically dedicated towards catering to the community. Is there something specific you were needing help with? Maybe I can help 🤷🏻‍♀️.

    Congrats and welcome to WW!

    This is an inclusive site.

If you find vendors through here who are NOT inclusive, please alert WW, immediately, as that vendor will be removed.

    Good luck!
