Linens...worth it?

Stacey, on January 13, 2018 at 10:49 AM Posted in Style and Décor 0 24

Let me begin saying I know nothing about linens. lol. I am looking into renting some floor length overlays to go over the ivory tablecloths at our venue. I have contacted a couple of local vendors, but while I wait to hear back I figured I would ask for WW experiences. If you rented overlays or tablecloths did it make a big difference in the room? Was it worth it, and if so was it expensive/inexpensive? I am just looking to get an idea of what to expect price wise, a lot of these companies prefer you come into their showroom before they will offer up pricing. Thanks!

I bought mine used for $10 a piece for floor length table cloths for 8 foot tables. I have the white folding banquet tables though. I think the wooden tables by themselves are really pretty with a runner. It would just depend on what kind of tables you have. There's sites that are cheaper than renting sometimes.

I found cheap linen napkins on efavormart.com and I think there’s even tablecloths there too! I’m struggling with the same thing. I’m frugal and hate having to spending $100 on linen lol!

Linens and overlays make a huge difference in the room. Banquet tables aren't aesthetically pleasing. Colored linens and textured overlays are more expensive, but even if you did a simple white it would help to bring the whole room together.

Our venue supplies floor length ivory tablecloths, I'm just looking for an overlay or colored tablecloth to warm it up a bit. It's a hotel ballroom and the tables are pretty, but really plain.

While overlays may be unnecessary, I would say at least long tablecloths and napkins make a huge difference in a space. you can go with a lower level rental package that just includes these and you won't be disappointed! But anything more than the basics will probably not even be on your guests' radar, unless you have friends that are planning their wedding for a date after yours and taking notes!

I purchased overlays at one of the discount sites online. They were like $5 apiece for red satin ones and yes they looked beautiful- we used them at our stag & doe and will use again at the wedding.

I prefer table runners to overlays.

I'm usually with you on that, I don't always like the way they look, but I found some beautiful floor length overlays that I am in love with! Just not in love with the price, especially for a rental!

It's often less expensive to buy linens rather than rent them. Yes, you will have to iron them before use, but seriously, you can often just give them away after the wedding and still pay less than renting.

What size are your tables? Are you looking for organza overlays or something else?

We used the linens from our venue. I didn't feel the need to pay extra for colored linens. Instead I did pops of color by putting a small flower at each setting. I think it turned out pretty.

I'm looking for something like this, but so far no luck outside of local companies.

Are the linens underneath white? Could you maybe find a lace overlay to put on the white linens to get a similar effect for less?

We're using the venue's linens for the guest tables. No overlays or runners, keeping the guest tables pretty monochromatic with gold touches as the uplight is a bit strong in the venue.

For the sweetheart table and the cake table, we actually purchased fabric from the downtown fashion district in our city and had the table cloths made. Afterwards, they're ours to keep and give away. If you have sewing skills yourself then you're only paying for the fabric.

We splurged on renting silk linens because I really wanted that textured silk sheen to elevate the ambience. But we used the hotel's linens for the brunch the next morning. I literally waited until the week before the wedding to make this decision because it was about $35 per table to rent these so I decided to just go for it. When I saw the room that night I loved the look and was so happy I decided to splurge on these!
