Lipstick for Wedding Day??

Ashley , on March 5, 2019 at 11:56 PM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 19
Hi everyone!

I'm getting married in September and we are going for a subtle autumn/fall equinox/creepy vibe... so I thought it could be fun to do a darker color lipstick for my wedding makeup.I love wearing lipstick (usually coral or classic red) - I was thinking of going for an odd mauve or deep red color but I'm worried about it looking too Halloween-y or something.

So my questions are: 1. Does anyone have any advice on why I should or shouldn't do lipstick on the wedding day (assuming that I find a brand that is "kiss-able" and won't transfer?
2. What brands have you all tried that don't smudge and have long-lasting wear?

Thanks in advance!! Smiley heart

It sounds like we're doing something similar! I'm also getting married in September, and will be very autumnal for my look. I'm going to go for a make up trial just to make sure, but I'm thinking a shade like this:

It's from the brand Lime Crime, which has great long lasting wear matte lipsticks.

    That's so pretty!!

I might have to grab a couple lip colors from them and then just see how I feel at the makeup trial! I've heard Limecrime's Velvetines (I think that's what you posted?) stays in place super well which is great...I would just hate to accidentally get lipstick on my dress haha.

Thanks! Yep, you're absolutely right--that's from the Velvetines line. I've gotten various colors before, and they definitely wear for hours on end. I love them. Barring some catastrophe during application, you should be relatively safe from getting it somewhere on accident. It does a great job of staying put once dried.

Great, thanks so much! I'm sure I'll wear them long after the wedding, so I'll use that as an excuse to get a handful of colors haha

My go to lip color is always the Revlon Colorstay Overtime Lipstain and Gloss. It’s a double-headed dispenser with a application tip for the stain and a brush for the clear gloss. It retails for $10.49, but you can easily find it discounted in the $6-8 range. It comes in 24 colors, of which I own 7, and for fall the colors for the look you want from the line look for: Always Sienna (380), Everlasting Rum(370), Limitless Black Cherry(500), and Relentless Raisin(270).

It doesn’t behave like lipstick. Once it’s dried and set it won’t kiss off. You might see a faint print on your champagne glass, but it will be almost translucent. Infact it won’t come completely off with your first scrub. For me it takes a day or two to fade completely. And I love it for that reason too; I don’t have to worry about wearing lipstick for that time. It’s never let me down through 10-14 hour shoots in bad weather.

Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick is my absolute go-to for long-wear lip color. It literally lasts through everything, and the texture is great. You'll have to reapply once or twice, but it doesn't tend to get super cakey, even with reapplies.

Sephora also has a Rouge Lip Tint that feels like stained glass on your lips. I'm not sure if they have a color dark enough for you, but the tints are incredibly light and long-lasting.

I'll have to check both of them out. I'd love to just go with a lip stain if I can since it probably won't be as high maintenance. Thanks for the recommendations!

I don't sell it but I swear by it....Lipscense. That stuff is incredible. I'm a flight attendant and wear bright red lipstick on the DAILY and that stuff stays on for 8-12 hours of eating and drinking beverages. The only time I have to reapply is after bigger meals and that's only to the water line. Find a friend who sells it or I think you can buy it online. Get it early and practice with it though as it does take some getting used to.

Hi Ashley. I think wearing a darker lip for your wedding day to go with the vibe sounds awesome! I would definitely speak with your make up artist (assuming you are booking one) and get their opinion on smudge proof, long-lasting brands. They know all the tricks of the trade, including waterproof mascaras! I LOVE the MAC shade Diva Talia suggested. I'm a big fan of MAC and some of my personal Autumn favorites are Twig and Rebel.
