Lit Candles for a Daytime Affair?

Sarah Ann, on April 8, 2007 at 6:01 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 7

So I really love the idea of lanterns of all different types on the tables as center pieces (I have a thing for lanterns) but we are getting married during the day. Are lit candles during an afternoon reception weird? Or even hurricane glasses with candles lit...what do you guys think??

I would think it's a bit weird if it's full sunshine out... however, candles during the dusk hours can be very dramatic

I think candles can be romantic anytime. For some pizzaz, how about using colored candles or decorating them with some colorful ribbon? That'll spice up your standard white pillar candle to make it seem a little more "daytime".

How about filling the lanterns with flowers, instead? Either using them as vases, or just putting blossoms inside (especially yellows/oranges, that could look cool).

If it is daylight outside it might be a little odd. But then again Its YOUR special day, so if you love lanterns and candels i suggest you go for it!

It can work if your venue is not very bright inside during that time of day. If there are a lot of windows, ask if the draperies can be closed to allow the candlelight to create a more dramatic and romantic glow in the room.

Being a wedding planner, I can tell you that it is not weird. Your venue can accomodate you with dimming and other lighting features to allow the lanterns to be an accent. Think about portions of your reception that would be more intimate, for example your first dance. Do you want to dance and set the mood of your first dance with all the lights on? Now imagine how beautiful it would be to have the effect of hints of color from the lit lanterns during your dance with dim house lights. With candles, you have to think about the space. If it's a small venue, the candles can make the room extremely warm and you don't want your guest uncomfortable. I say go for the lanterns!!!

    No... it's not weird!

That is not weird at all. I just went to a wedding that used a vase like the hurricanes and put fresh flowers inside with a floating voltive. The candles were lit during the ceremony, and during the reception. Its sets the mood i think.
