Locked/enclosed Card Box?

What are you guys doing for your card boxes? Are you having them open, or accessible, or are you having them locked or enclosed? How are you DIY-ing your boxes so no one can steal the cards?

OMG you guys have me paranoid now! I hadn't even thought about it to be honest... we bought a gorgeous white metal birdcage with a hinged lid. My sister is in charge of taking all of our gifts and cards at the end of the night but she's also a BM and won't have time to "man the gifts and cards". I wonder if adding a lock to the lid will help, but probably not since it's an open/wire style cage so anyone could easily pluck cards right out from it! Maybe I need to re-think our card box! Eek! Smiley sad

It was so secure we had to rip the ribbon off to get the lid off to get into the box. Here is the finished product.

So we are going to have a simple basket with a ribbon and maybe flowers. It will set on a table with the sign in book. this is also where people will leave boxed gifts. We will have someone standing there directing people to sign in and accepting gifts. This set up will be very close to the door of a conference room. As gifts come in they will immediately be put into this conference room and once all gusts are there, the card basket will be put in there as well. The door will be locked and the key given to FH (he is better at not loosing stuff lol) supposedly us and the coordinator (probably the person who will stand there by the book) are the only ones with a key. We are also allotted time and a private breakfast to open gifts the next morning but I doubt we will do that unless it's just him and I.

I have read a few stories on here about past brides who have had all the cards stolen. They had no idea who did it and were devastated. You don't know everyone at the venue, and you don't even know the potential financial distress some of your guests might be in to make them desperate enough to steal.

I think I will get a semi large cardboard box and wrap it with a nice wrapping paper and decorate it. It would be large enough that it would be obvious if someone took it and walked out.

Better safe than sorry! I'm making a box for my daughter's wedding that will be secure and will be put away in a locked room once all guests arrive.

I got a card box from AC Moore for $3. It is super cute and perfect to go along with our theme. Honestly, I absolutely don't think anyone we would invite would steal anything. I don't know how often this happens, but I've heard of it happening to some people. I'm just going to have it on the gift table with a sign and people can open it to put the cards in.

I had never even considered this, but as other's have said, now I'm paranoid!! Seriously, what is wrong with people these days??? Our ceremony and reception is going to be at a house/backyard with 3 acre space between neighbors, and our card/gift box is going to be on a porch that everyone will frequently be walking by (so obvious if someone is spending too much time up there trying to get cards out), but I may just have to use the idea of hot gluing the lid to make it less easy for them. That is also safe if someone accidentally knocks the box, they don't spill everywhere.

We were all open gift box, until one of my BM's asked me to have it locked. We are worried after hearing a couple of horror stories.

The side with the heart screws down. My box is also kind of heavy.

I have never even thought of this until now!! Our box was originally just a wooden box with no top but now I am looking into something to somehow enclose it! When we met with our DJ at the venue last month to go over floor plans he also suggested putting the card and gift table close to him as well. Thanks for bringing this up!

You're right. I had not thought of that.

One of my BM's husband is going to stand position at our gift table. Maybe once everyone arrives, after the ceremony, we'll move everything to our cars, or something?

We're definitely locking ours. Sadly we have one guest (pre-teen) that we could see stealing from there, and you never know the vendors.

Locked, my family apparently has sticky fingers, or so I've heard.

My card box is going to be a mail box. I found one for $4 at a thrift store. I’m going to paint it white but block off the opening. Inside I’m going to have flowers coming out of the opening and cut a slit in the top.

I made mine and it opens from the bottom so I am not locking it. Will put it in a table next to our table so everyone can have an eye on it. Hopefully there will be no problems Smiley smile

Ours is very similar. It’s a lockable white bird cage with baby’s breath flowers and ribbon around it.

I’m going to have my fh make something similar to this so we can display it in our home after the wedding and stained darker too. Also I found it very cool that this one had an E on it, my fh and my future last name starts with E!

I haven’t bought it yet but I found this Disney card box that locks. My grandma is so paranoid she said we need to somehow bolt it to the table lol.
