Long Distance Bride, Coronavirus, Wedding Hair: Help!

Tiger Bride, on April 17, 2020 at 3:30 PM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 5

I always knew that booking wedding hair was going to be a problem, because we currently live across the country from where we're getting married (live in the Northeast, getting married in the Southeast) so a hair trial was going to be difficult if not impossible to arrange. I figured I would go to a hair salon up here and at least get the style figured out, then talk to some salons near the wedding location and see how they felt about that. But since salons are closed, I can't even do that.

I'm thinking an updo since we'll be dancing and I want my hair to stay in place. But I've always felt self conscious about my face being pudgy/round, despite losing a bunch of weight (40 pounds) over the past year and a half (which apparently didn't do anything for my face!), and was concerned that an updo might exacerbate that. I'm thinking I'll just tell them to add some curls framing my face, and hopefully that will achieve the effect.

So...since I can't try the actual salon, and I can't try out the style, how do I book a hairstylist for this wedding?!

I'm in a similar boat - getting married on the West Coast, live on the East Coast. I booked my stylist based on photos/pricing/reviews, and planned to fly out to my wedding state to have a trial before the wedding (and take care of other wedding planning tasks on the same trip). Right now I have my trial booked in July, two months before my wedding, and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it will be safe for me to fly at that point! I would recommend that you book a stylist remotely based on reviews, and see if you can fly out to your wedding state in advance to have a trial. If all else fails, then just book a stylist with 100% glowing reviews and plan on having your hair/makeup start time be VERY early in case you need to ask the stylist to change your hair a bit on your wedding day.

Our bach party is in the same state on LDW, but all the way across the state. I don't think we will be able to book another trip before then Smiley sad I'll probably just book based on reviews. I hope everything works out for you!!

I would reach out to several stylist in the area you are going to marry. Send them some ideas of the type of look you want and ask if they have any pictures in their portfolio of that type of style for a girl with a similar face shape. A lot of salons will have contact information for their stylists that you can reach out to and I am sure someone is still checking their emails! You can always do a trial the week of or for your rehearsal if you really are concerned.

I never did a trial for hair or makeup. I just booked someone who had good reviews and came highly recommended.

If things have opened up enough for your wedding by October, they are likely to have opened up enough for hair salons before that. So you should be able to try out the style at least before the wedding. And it's not something you need to figure out way in advance.
