Long Engagement - Any 2021 Brides?

My fiance proposed to me on April 6th last month. Our wedding day is May 30th 2021 everyone asked why so long? We both said we want to have the wedding of our dreams and it takes time to plan since I will be doing all the research on my own and looking for good deals and buying things I want to have along the way... We found the perfect venue for us and our guest and the price was great that we couldn't pass it up so we booked it...

We got together on 2009
Got engaged on 2017
And getting married this june

To the OP I have to say thank you because now I realize I have a bunch of questions for other #21savage brides! Some of you ladies have mentioned that you were able to secure venues for ‘21 already— I was wondering since I’ll be a December bride I figured the earliest I could probably book is late October-ish 2019 (I’ve been told many vendors don’t sign contracts beyond 2 years) is that true? What else can be booked really early? Also to the early birds are you nervous that either you of FH find a better/different venue in that time?


Also I’m actually undecided about hiring a wedding planner/event coordinator. A lot of us chose a long engagement for various reasons, but usually the financial aspect is a common theme. I feel like with a long engagement FH and I should be able to plan everything so a full planner seems wasteful. In between going with partial or just a day-of-team, not sure yet

My proposal was also two years out 10/20/20. Financials reasons like social security insurance he would lose if he got married before his rightful age. Were discussed having a long engagement and living in separate houses for a while. Same state different cities and both homeowners.

Yes, my engagement is two and a half years long!

Yes in the same boat my fiance proposed on Jan 1 2019 and we are planning our wedding to be Jan 23rd 2021. We are doing it this way for mostly financial reasons.

16 month engagement here. We got engaged on Valentine's day this year, getting married next June.

We are also paying for everything and like everyone else stated , it's nice to have time to plan and save .

I've had several people ask me why we are waiting so long...one even said aren't you afraid he will leave you before then? My reply....well, if he does good thing I waited because he wouldn't be the one for me anyway 😆

I've always wanted a June wedding and didn't see the need to stress myself out and rush for this summer.
I'm a planner by nature, so having things to look forward to, is right up my alley.👰😘

We have a lot of things that we want to make sure its the perfect party for us. We have been to a lot of weddings and don't want to start our marriage with debt. I'm in Project management, so it's natural to have a plan and projections. After we sat down and hashed out the must-haves and the budget, we knew we had to save for longer and that meant it was less stressful financially.

Yes! So we got engaged on April 7th 2019 and my fiancé and I decided on 2021 be sue I feel like with more time it’s less stress and you can take your time and not feel pressured to pick a venue and everything else. We chose May 2021 so for no rush and everything will be just right

I got engaged last April and we set our date for September 19, 2020 so our engagement period by the time everything is said and done will have been about 2 and a half years. I'm just now starting to plan. We just booked our venue and our photographer. I am glad we did it this way so that we weren't stressed or rushing things by any means. I want our day to be special and what I have always envisioned. I know it's not going to be perfect because that's just how things go but I am aiming for as close as possible.

So ours is not your typical long engagement story. Our first date was January 5th, 2011. We were talking marriage within weeks, and had moved in together in August of the same year. He 'officially' proposed Christmas of 2012 with the ring he had been saving for for a while. We weren't in a rush to get married, and only knew that we wanted to try and pay for as much of it ourselves as possible. We also couldn't settle on "the perfect date" and the years kind of just slipped past us. We also had some financial struggles for a while, and just couldn't get the money saved to feel confident to set a date.

Well, to make a long story slightly shorter, my sister's husband is Navy, and so they've been moved all over with their two kids. They'll be going to Japan this year for a 3 year stay, and my mom really wanted to get everybody together for the holidays sometime in the time their gone as a big family vacation. It also just so happens that the Christmas holiday season of 2020 would line right up with our 10 year anniversary in 2021. So my mom actually came up with the brilliant idea to get married on our 10 year anniversary in Hawaii, and just extend the whole trip to be a family holiday. So we'll be going down sometime between Christmas and New Year's in 2020, and then they'll stay and join us for our wedding on January 5th, 2021!

So to answer your question, we didn't intend to have a long engagement. It just kind of turned out that way

This is basically what we want to do!

We are a 2021 couple! We decided on a longer engagement since I'm still in school but couldn't wait to get engaged we have been happily together for over 7 years!
