Long Engagement

I am having a pretty long engagement as you ladies can tell. I wanted to finish school first, and since we are paying for the whole thing we want to make sure we have the money to do what we want. BUT I am feeling soooo impatient and getting so excited and just feel like it's going to take forever....

BUT I am feeling soooo impatient and getting so excited and just feel like it's going to take forever. Anyone else having a long engagement that feels this way? Weddingwire keeps a little bit of the obsession down but not much. I really want to start doing the fun stuff ( trying on dresses, food/cake tasting, picking out favors, etc.) not just research!

I got engaged 2/9/08 and as you can see I didn't get married until 10/30/10. We waited so long because HE was intent on that particular date and I was intent on a Saturday evening wedding so add the two together and we had over a 2.5 year engagement. I enjoyed the research but I jumped on top of deals when I could get them. Our venue was booked by May of 08! Pretty much any vendor that was willing to book early and give a good rate for what I wanted had my ear! Take the time to enjoy yourself and you can never shop too early for your gown. There are so many wonderful bridal designers.....just enjoy it!

I did a lot of "virtual" planning and purchasing. I set up in Word doc a page for each part of our big day (ceremony, reception tables, attire, etc.) kinda like you would do on pinterest. When I would find something interesting, I'd "shop" it onto that page with copy/paste, making sure to include the info on where I found it. After a while, I found some things were keepers and others no longer held the charm and were deleted.

When it came time to actually purchase/make, I knew just what it was that I wanted and how it was all going to come together for the big picture because I've lived with it for so long. I was able to change my mind as often as I wanted without wasting time or money and had no buyer's remorse at all. And my "virtual shopping" helped with the urges to get things for the wedding early on.

We got engaged Feb 2011 and I am now getting married in just 26 days. Trust me time will fly by quicker than you think. Plan as much as you can hoping you won't change your mind. I did that a lot and ended up wasting a crap load of money in the process =( Since I already knew the exact dress I wanted (found it online) that was my first purchase (May 2011). We did start planning right away (got a guest list together, figured out colors, etc)

My engagement will end up being a 19 month engagement. I've reached the 6 month mark and I am getting ANTSY! I'm hoping the next year will fast forward to my big day.

Engaged September 22, 2012, will be married August 9, 2014. You're not alone. LOL! We moved from Ohio to Florida in that time and we're paying for everything ourselves so we needed time to get our funds back together. I am loving having an extended engagement. I don't feel like I'm going broke paying for this and we have a lot more time to plan what we really want.

Hello my long engagement ladies.... It's nice to see that I am not alone in this. I have been engaged since September 2012, and we are getting married August 9, 2014 (Hey hey to my two date twins on this thread)..... I have been planning the wedding on paper since September, like picking colors, date, and getting a preliminary guest list done. We just booked our venue in April, and officiant last week as we didn't want to lose them. Now, we are working on other vendors that we need trying to get the cost where we need it. I have been using all of this time to price out things so that they won't cost us an arm and a leg, because we too are paying for this ourselves, while also preparing for our daughter to graduate high school next year too. It's going to be rough, and I am inpatient, but I know the time was important to keep us from drowning financially.

Congratualtions and happy planning to you all!

Our engagement was 17 mos out...which means I'm getting married in 11 months. But we've been together for six years...so it feels like I've had a MUCH longer engagement. Everyone wants us to push it to this year but we're trying to work around his insane school schedule.

My engagement was about 19 months. It was hard but it really does fly by. We waited a long time to save as well and I think it is completely worth it. Hopefully no debt after the wedding! I also took a break in the middle in terms of planning because I was in school but your excitement will definitely go back up once you reach the one year mark. I'm sure your wedding will be wonderful!!

We got engaged in March and the wedding is July. We have lived together for 5 years already. I simply couldn't wait. lol. We have to plan around shows as well for our business, which starts back up in August and runs through November. I wasn't waiting for next year.

When my wedding comes along, I would have been engaged for 8 months. Like Jennifer, I hate myself for it. I feel so rushed and 6 of the 8 months, my FH was deployed so even more so I didn't really get to enjoy being engaged. Everything is happening so fast. If I could, I would have waited longer to be married but FH was insistent on getting married sooner than later.

I'm feeling the same way :-( August of 2014 feels like it is light years away, and we are both becoming extremely anxious and impatient. It also does not help that we are having a destination wedding, so just about everything has been paid for and planned. We literally have nothing left to do but twiddle our thumbs and think about how much longer we have to go.

I just got engaged in December 2013 and we're looking at booking a venue in September 2015. I just really like the idea of being married in September (the month we started dating) and this September is WAY too soon. We live out in San Diego and plan on moving back to the east coast. I can't imagine planning a wedding while moving/job hunting at the same time. Everyone has their own circumstances to create their own wedding.

My biggest concern is when to start looking for my dress. I'm thinking when I move back this summer, this way I can be with my family. I have a fear of finding a dress too soon and wanting to change it.

MY FH and I just got engaged two weeks ago and that has flown by, but I have been planning via Pinterest nearly every day since. Then again, I am the type of woman who has been planning in their head for a few years. I find that wedding movies that make fun of the process a bit (such as The five-Year Engagement and Bride Wars) help. FH is happy to watch the movies with me because it keeps the obsessive talk down a bit. I bought a dress online that I thought I loved, and now regret it. But it was cheap (only $350 from China).

When I do go shopping for the real dress, I want to do it right; with my mom and aunt and future mother-in-law in tow. Any suggestions for how long I should wait? We are now thinking of getting married at the end of April in 2018. I also don't want to change size too drastically or hate it before it gets a chance to be worn when it matters.
