Long Veil Issues?

Kristi, on October 24, 2017 at 12:32 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 1 15

My wedding dress has a longer train and I am thinking about doing a long veil to go with it. I was wondering if anyone ever had issues with walking down the aisle with longer veils or had any problems along the way.

I have read where the longer veil sometimes gets caught on things (ex. pavement) when walking down the aisle or to the aisle.

There was a BAM recently where the bride said her longer veil kept getting caught on stuff when they were doing pictures before the ceremony, and the bottom of her veil was ruined by the time they did the ceremony.

I didn't have on my veil during my first look, just for the ceremony. When I got up to the altar, my MOH adjusted my veil.

As long as you don't walk backwards, you should be fine.

eta: I had a cathedral veil

My ceremony is indoors so I'm not worried about it. If you are getting married outside where you have to walk on different surfaces... idk?

@GymRat- That is a great idea! Plus, it makes it more special when I walk down the aisle!

@Mrs70- Ceremony is outdoors, unless it rains. I think I will definitely be carrying it around everywhere just so it doesn't get ruined.

It's going to be at least cathedral length- plus the train. I'm hoping it will be beautiful like I imagine! Smiley smile

FYI the reason it wasn't on for the first look was because the weather was shitty (rain), and my photographer said he didn't want it to get dirty, otherwise I would have worn it. The #1 (and only) regret I have from my wedding is I never got an artistic veil shot.

I had a long veil, it kept pulling while I walked down the brick aisle. I wore it and tried to take pictures but it blew all over the place. I ended up tearing it out of my hair and only have pictures with it during the ceremony. That being said, I wish I took the veil for some of the pictures of me and my husband but I could have lived without it.

I had a long veil that I just carried ( or had someone carry) across the brick path. Once I was on grass, I was totally fine. It was on a comb so as soon as I was done taking portraits and stuff, I took it out. It will get snagged, bugs in it, etc, but it's a particular look and I loved it.

I had a cathedral veil and it was fine for pictures as I just picked it up and carried it when i walked around, but my ceremony was on a stone patio so I felt it catching as I walked down the aisle. That was a bit annoying. but I still loved having a long veil.

I went with the long cathedral veil that matched my dress, because of the lace it is rather weighted and doesn't seem to fly about and catch on things. My concern will be my long walk to & then down the aisle (it's outside and on pavement) but it looks like my train will help cushion. After that I plan on carrying it.

Hi! So just like your dress gets pinned up in a bustle, veils can also get bustled. I worked in a bridal shop for 8 years. Ask your alterationist to add in a clear button onto the comb and a loop midway down. Pull the loop up and over the button and your veil should drape like a waterfall where the longest point is at the back of your knees. This way your arms are free and your saving the veil from rips. You can now wear it during the first dance. Not to mention I'm sure your maid of honor will love to assist you with your veil, they love to feel important on 'your special day! Another pointer, watch the lipstick especially on a windy day.

Hi Mandi is there a way to attach the veil to my dress so it doesn’t fold over and get out of shape?
