Long Vendor Response Time

Sydney, on January 19, 2021 at 9:26 AM Posted in Planning 0 5

So our 50 guest wedding is this upcoming September, (so like 8 months away). All of our vendors are booked, except for the baker, who I have been talking to for a few months. She is super enthusiastic, asks all the right questions, has great reviews, and is local to my wedding venue which I love.

The only issue is she takes at least a week to answer emails, the longest it took a month to hear back (but this was over the holidays). I am somewhat worried but I think since our wedding is further away and she mostly runs the business all on her own, that she has her hands full with closer weddings and I should not freak out.

I just wanted to hear some thoughts... like if I should definitely move on. I don't want to because we have talked a lot of details and she is so sweet. But definitely don't want to end up with a disaster or last-minute planning.

Thanks in advance Smiley smile

It never hurts to compare multiple options for each vendor, so I would find at least another option just to get info regardless, but if you find one whose work you like, their cost is within your budget, they have great reviews, and are available for your date, I say book them! You could mention your concern to her about the long wait times for a response (or ask if there is a better way to contact her, she might be more responsive through a different form of contact). Does she always return a response, just delayed? Or are there times that you have to send a reminder email to get a reply? Can you communicate with her through phone calls instead of email? If the slow response time is a concern to you, then I would look around and see what else is out there.

Okay thanks I will definitely ask if there is a better way to contact her and lightly express my concern. She always responds but it takes quite a while. I am the type of person that will respond within a day.
    Thanks!

    Hi Sydney!

Considering all you've said, I think you should stick with her. Especially since she's running her business on her own. A month to hear back due to the holidays is also understandable! It took our baker about a week to respond to us about a price quote, and she also runs her business herself.

As long as she's being responsive and not ghosting you, then I think you're fine sticking with her! It sounds like she truly cares about her clients, and is trying her best to keep up with all of her orders. That being said, if you're still worried about it, you could go ahead and find some backup bakers just in case things don't work out with her!

I agree with Lisa about checking out others in your area. Most likely she has her hands full with current couples but let her know your concerns.

That's definitely a positive sign that she always replies! I know it can be frustrating to have to wait days for a response, but since she always replies, I wouldn't rule her out. It sounds like she's ideal for you otherwise, so I would stick with her, ask her about if she prefers a different method of contact, and continue planning.
