Long vs. Round Tables?

FutureMsHinton, on April 12, 2013 at 11:43 AM Posted in Style and Décor 0 21

Hi Ladies,

So I've been looking into the idea of having long tables at my reception instead of rounds. I love the family style feel that it brings and I think it would go perfect with my reception site because the venue is more long and rectangular looking. I'm also thinking I can save on flowers this way. I haven't given much thought of the logistics of long tables though.. like how do you do place cards etc. Is anyone else thinking of doing long tables?

I'm having long tables and I don't feel like I am saving on flowers at all because we are doing a long row of flowers down the middle instead of a single arrangement on each table.

I LOVE the look of long tables. I worked so many weddings that have done long tables and it has more of an elegant feel to it! You can definitely save on flowers; depending on how long the table is you'd only need a few major centerpieces and something smaller in betwee. I personally love it!

I kinda wanted long tables, but FH Didn't. He says it's harder for people to talk to each other than it is at a round table, like if someone is between two people who want to talk. They then have to lean way forward or back to talk. And it can be harder to get out of your seat. Tables were definitely not a priority for me, so I let FH have round ones.

I am doing longer tables; they seat 10 each. I love the idea!!! I HATE round tables! I prefer the idea of being able to do a runner centerpiece.

I wish my venue had long tables. I love the look. I do agree with @Trena's FH though. It is harder to converse at them.

I like the idea of long and round. We are not doing this but this is an image from my venue

My daughter in law had round tables. and i have been to other events where round ones were used. i personally prefer the rectangle ones. so that when some one is speaking at the front then the guest dont have to turn around to see who's talking

Thanks for your thoughts! For those of you who have used long tables how did you do your seating chart?

We haven't done our seating chart yet, but I think we will do each table within the row of tables as his familly, my family. That way they kind of mingle, but still sit by people they know

I really like the long tables. If I had my choice, I would do them too, and also family style food. But that's just not what my place offers.

LOVE long tables, I am also doing a mixture of long and round! I plan to put my big group of friends at a long table, my family and FH family at their own long tables, and then everyone else at circle tables!

If my venue had enough long tables for everyone I would do it for sure!

I love the look of long tables. There are so many gorgeous arrangements ideas that you can do with a long table as opposed to a round one.

We are having three long tables - part due to space and partly because it fits with the casual style of the wedding

(I have no idea what I am going to decorate them with yet)

I like the look of long tables it just wouldn't work for us. We are mixing rectangle and round tables at our reception.

I would not have minded long tables but it is not as good for conversations and socializing. If your goal is for people to mingle...then after dinner, people want to sit and mingle with others, they pull up extra chairs if they need to and all sit in the same round table. You can't do that with long rectangular tables because you have corners. In rectangular tables you tend to socialize with folks in which ever section you are seated in. Just something to consider!

I think I am in the minority. I prefer round tables as it is easier for guests to interact.

We did round tables at my daughters wedding.

I like the look of long tables more, but I like the ease of socializing at round tables better. We ended up going with round tables.

We are doing long tables. since my venue is modern, that was the better way to go. you can get long table runners and do your own inexpensive flower arrangements. I purchased sale cream and silver bowls and am putting in the candles and flowers in blue.
