Currently filling forms and questionnaires for our DJ and we haven't decided on what song we want for the "Longest Couple Married" dance. Any suggestions?? Edit: Considering Remember When - Alan Jackson

I've always loved this idea. I had two recently widowed people at my wedding and couldn't bring myself to do this to them though.

We did Through the Years by Kenny Rogers and it was lovely. We listened to Remember When, but I could not get past the lyric about them making love and crying.

@Tina - I listened to him growing up! My father would have been 73 years old this June. He passed away, and his favorite song was the Gambler, so I'm dancing to that with my 3 brothers instead at my reception. Can't wait!

Continue on folks ;-) Sorry for the hijack.

Yes please and my apologies too because I have an aunt that we call "Kenny" because she often says, in a slight Italian accent "You got to know when to hold em know when to fold em" all run together like that. I wish you love and am crying about your dance!!!

I'm leaning towards either Through The Years or What a Wonderful World. The latter is my parent's song, and they will be the ones married the longest. 50 years this summer Smiley smile

If you want something that's sweet and has a sense of humor and is sung beautifully tongue in cheek and adorably, this is what we would have done:

    REK's It's the Little Things

It's the way you stroke my hair while I am sleepin'

It's the way you tell me things I don't know

It's the way you remember I came home late for dinner

Eleven months and fourteen days ago

It's the little things the little bitty things

Like the way that you remind me I've been growin soft

It's the little things the itty bitty things

    It's the little things

    That piss me off

    For the less serious.

This was easy. At my wedding the song used was "Through the Years" by Kenny Rogers. I did it as a ode to my parents, because my dad is a huge old timey country music guy, and I knew he'd like it enough to want to dance with my mom to. Plus, it's always been an a favorite of mine since I was young.

Yeah, @MrsT that's why we skipped it too. IMO this can be a really touchy subject. My grandparents would have been longest married by far except my grandfather died not too long ago. IMO if you have people who have lost spouses it can just be really hard for them to have to see this so personally I don't care for this tradition.

I already know who the longest couple is and their 60th anniversary is two weeks after the wedding so we're gonna get them a small bouquet of flowers.

But I have no idea about which song.

FH is in charge of all the music

Here's an idea. If you know who the longest married couple will be at your wedding, find out their wedding song and play that! We are using "I left my heart in San Francisco" because that was the first dance at my aunt and uncle's wedding 50 years ago, and I know they are the longest married couple! I also ordered a bouquet of daisies, my aunt's favorite flower, to give them after the dance. Luckily I had my cousins and my mom help me figure out those two details. I can't wait!

I wanted to do this to "When I'm 64" by the Beatles but FH lost his dad 4 years ago and I lost my stepmom 3 years ago and I don't want to remind my dad and FMIL that their spouses they were still married to aren't there... So I'm skipping this... But that was my song I wanted.
