Longest married dance? (Anniversary Dance)

Honey B., on October 19, 2011 at 2:26 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 13

So I have been to a few weddings and only seen this done at my FH's cousin's wedding. The DJ announced for all married couples to join the Bride and Groom on the dance floor and throughout the song he would ask couples to stay if they have been married for X amount of years. Example- Couples who have been married for 5 years. So those that have not been married for five years would leave until you get down to the last couple standing that have been married the longest.

I thought it was a really cute idea and they got a bottle of champagne to share. Has anyone done this? Thought of doing this? What are your ideas on this?

I've seen it & love it. If we were having our wedding up here I would be planning on giving my bouquet to the couple married the longest. [it would've been my grandparents - almost 50 years this june!]

My future brother in law did it at his wedding and fh and i are going to do it at ours. we're doing it instead of the bouquet and garter toss and if all the math works the way we think it does, it should be my grandparents as the longest married. instead of the the champagne were giving an arm bouquet of white roses

We did this at our wedding and it's called the Anniversary Dance. The longest married couple received my throw away bouquet. Everyone loved it and it was really neat to see just how long everyone had been married.

I never thought of giving a bouquet of flowers or my bouquet ... hmm... I don't think they would want mine because it will be silk flowers but I am definitely going to check into a bouquet of fresh roses. I'm not sure who the longest married couple will be since both my FH's grandfathers are deceased and so is my dad's mom (wouldn't matter though because they are divorced) and my mom's parents are divorced. I'm kind of excited to see who it will be LOL

Yes, did it this at our wedding and it went over well. We had very few single people as guests, so doing the traditional bouquet/garter toss would have been embarrassing for those few people, in our opinions, so we nixed that and went with the Anniversary Dance. Winner was family of my husband, 53 years married!

We do something similar... when we get down to the longest married couple... instead of "rewarding them" or giving them a price, we hand them the microphone and ask them to offer a bit of advice to the newlyweds.

Our DJ suggested this and I loved the idea. We are definitely going to do this...I am still thinking of a "gift" to give as I know the couple who will win is his parents and they don't drink. (My dj suggested wine also as a gift) I'm thinking of something else as a gift...but yeah we are doing this for sure!

I've seen it done but not with the dancing, the MC called out all married couples to the front, each couple give one piece of advice to the couple, and then the MC goes by year until the last one standing than they have to share a kiss, basically showing the the newlywed how to kiss and some people make it so fun by having the couple do it exactly as they did it, some make it crazy. However it's done it's very cute.

We are going to do this, I think its a really nice way to recognize all the married couples. We are inviting one couple that has been married an astounding 71 years... I'm not sure if they'll be up for the drive given that they are in their 90s but we will see.

We are doing it. We will probably give them a gift card or something since I'm not carrying flowers.
