Longest married dance?

bridetobe, on March 23, 2016 at 10:07 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 43

We are thinking of doing a special dance for the longest married couple. The DJ is going to ask all the married couple to get up and ask people who have been married 5 years or less to move back, 10 years or less do the same and so on. Anyone else doing it? What do we think about it?

I've seen it done before, and heard of the bride also giving the last couple dancing the bouquet in cases where the couple had decided not to do a bouquet toss.

I was thinking about doing this. I think it's a nice way to honor FHs grandparents

I believe this is usually called the anniversary dance. When I've seen it, the dj starts by asking couples married less than a day to get off the dance floor then less than a year, 5 years, etc until there is only one couple left on the floor.

I'm doing this with a twist. I already know which couple it will be (a friend's parents who just celebrated 50 years). I had their daughter find out what their first song was and am playing that for them. People won't actually be dancing, though. She's in a wheelchair and my mom has mobility issues. Just going to have all the couples stand, then sit as we count the years down until they are the last ones (well, her husband will stand next to her).

My grandma won't make it due to complications with her Parkinson's, and FH doesn't have any loving grandparents. So I really don't know who would be last

I've heard of it but I'd be worried about mobility and heart issues asking all my aunts and uncles to dance. I'm not doing it.

Both sets of my grandparents will be the last at ours, but since both my grandfathers have medical issues my cousins are going to step in for them. I'm so excited to do it!!

I LOVE this dance at weddings! My grandparents will be married 61 years by the time of my wedding making them the longest married out of our guests. I will give my bouquet to my grandmother at the end of the dance, and I know it will just make her so happy! I will be a little sad because my other grandfather will be there and if my grandmother was alive they would be married 71 years by my wedding; they were married 68 before she passed away. Wow, I can't wait for decades of love with FH Smiley smile

I saw on here that someone is going to give the "winner" their bridal bouquet which I thought was nice.

We are doing the anniversary dance. The couple who is married the longest will receive a picture frame from us. The photographer will take a pic of us with that couple and we will give it to them after the wedding to put in the frame. There is also a cute poem that can be read before handing them the frame. I haven't decided if we are doing that or not.

My friend is doing this and hopes my parents will be the last couple standing - almost 40 years married. However, my Mom just had back surgery and my father is physically disabled, so it may not be feasible. They're not competitive, but it does seem unfair.

We aren't having a dance. But we are giving the longest married couple our toss bouquet.

I love this! I may just have to do it. My grandparents would be the last ones dancing. They just celebrated 50 years!

I want to do this too. My parents will be the longest with 53 years. Their song is "Through the Years" by Kenny Rogers. I'll make sure that song is playing for this!!
