What is your reason for wanting a wedding planner? I have found that this web site answers all the questions I might have and the posts are from professionals as well as future brides.

Do I need to say it....you get what you pay for!I've heard horror stories of people who hired cheap planner who added more drama to the day, not less due to their inexperience! Since you've got over a year til your wedding, start saving now based on the going hourly rate in OC or North SD county. (FYI - I charge $65/hr in WA state if that helps.) Also call Caty at Resplendent Venue Design & Artistry in North SD County (760-715-0343) - she's fabulous with flowers and I've coordinated many, many events with her.

The other comments are correct that you get what you pay for. That being said, when you find someone who has a reasonable price, interview them thoroughly, get references, and then call those people to find out what their experience was. Sometimes someone really good who is just starting out offers a cheap rate just to get hired. There are some gems out there, and there are a lot of duds, too. So, do your homework and make sure you find someone who can really help you, not make your life more difficult. Best of luck!

You do get what you pay for but if you don't need full service it doesn't have to be expensive. Get your specifics down as far as what you want and alot of the planners offer different packages or they can make a custom one up for you. There are planners out there that would probably be willing to work with you and your budget if you just tell them exactly what your looking for and how much you want to spend.

A good planner is like human WD40 on your wedding day. They pay for themselves if they do nothing more than keep you running on schedule. I say this because a half hour late to a 5 hour 30k event is 3k worth of wedding that you miss by running late.

All your experienced vendors have an understanding of how one another work, and will fit together puzzle pieces. A bad planner tries to control the spaces in between where we usually interlock.

A good officiant shouldn't need a ceremony coordinator.

Do you have a maitre-d and/or bridal attendant?

A wedding planner is worth their weight in gold. She (or he) can save you money by bargaining with her network of vendors. A professional wedding planner or wedding coordinator works in the wedding business every day. He or she knows which vendors are giving you the best deal and which ones are pulling the veil over your eyes.

It is YOUR wedding day. You should not need to worry whether the DJ is set up on time, if the caterer is ready with the champagne toast, or who is going to serve the cake. There are many planners available which will fall within your budget and offer you relief by knowing that the most important day of your life will be handled by professionals.

I wanted to congratulate you on your upcoming wedding. And to offer my services to you I am in southern ca. I would love to talk with you more about your upcoming day. I will say you get what you pay but I also do not think you have to pay out the you know what to get someone who knows what they are doing. I customize all my packages to fit each individual bride. If you are interested in talking you can email me directly at ****@*********************.***. And I just want to say don't let anyone discourage you from hiring anyone you feel that you need. Most brides don't fully realize what it is that has to be done the day of and they think they can decorate the tables, make them selves look pretty tell their wedding party when to walk, and try to enjoy the day. In reality those brides are running around like crazy women yelling at anyone who gets in there way. Smiley smile And I do not say that to offend anyone I just know from experience. I wish you all the best with anything you decide. -Courtney

With the help of wedding wire I was able to do most of the planning myself. I did hire a day-of coordinator. I put out a gig on craigslist for someone. She has offered to help me along the way with things I get snagged on. For instance, the hotel did not want to let us to pop-out streamers for our exit...so she had the idea of them getitng us to sign a waiver of any liability due to the streamers...problem solved.

    good luck!

    Hello,

I own an event planning company and we specialize in what we like to call "recession chic" weddings. We have a niche for working with people with very small budgets while producing fabulous events without sacrificing quality or style.

We offer all types of packages including DIY floral workshops where you can make your own centerpieces and bouquets with the help of a professional florist.
